As someone who is just now learning stick at 22, I still feel like I would be happier with an auto and paddle shifters. I've still got plenty of time to make my mind up though.

I wanted to see what all of you thought on the matter. When I think mustang, I think everyone drives a manual. Is this true?

Are you getting an auto or a manual?

My '05 is a manual, with Hurst shifter.

My daily driver is an auto.................I'd go auto for my next Stang........but then I'm getting old LOL

I'm sticking with the manual but I think it depends on how often you drive it and what kind of conditions. My commute and traffic conditions arent too bad so it's a fun and relatively short drive which makes me enjoy rowing my own gears. I'd love to see them put a good DCT in the Mustang one day as the ones I've tried, while not as fun to drive as a traditional stick, were great from a performance and driveability POV.

Judging by the paddle shift buttons we saw from the interior spy photos I have my doubts how many people will be using those on the auto. It might end up annoying drivers more than anything.

This is a fun car for me (work out of the house, so no traffic :)) - so only a manual would do. I am just glad there will be that option - not sure how much longer it will be one....

Lowest weight + least complexity + best reliability + best control = manual

I've been driving a stick in my daily driver for 25 years now. I see no need to change now.

For me it would depend on how the paddle shifters perform. If they end up being nothing more than an annoyance, I may go with stick. My 07 is an auto and I wish I had gone with a manual, so I might go the manual route this time, provided my commute when I move to Florida isn't too tedious.

My 2011 is a stick, but I have had some autos. For me, It really depends on the quality and measurable performance of the Auto. I do enough driving in congested environments to appreciate an auto. But,, for me performance will always be the most important issue. If as is the case with many modern transmissions, that the auto performs better with equal or great mpg.... we are done. I know I will miss rowing my own, but better times are better times.

Auto until Ford REALLY addresses the Mt82.
Even though there wasn't ever really a problem with it? The whole gear-grinding thing was grossly over-exaggerated. It was a problem with a select few early transmissions, which was quickly resolved by better quality control. There were just over 100 official complaints with the transmission regarding this issue, half of which were found to come from the same IP address (a spammer, if you couldn't figure it out). A majority of the rest were from people that either didn't know of the skip-shift "feature" or didn't know how skip-shift worked.

With that said, I'll gladly take a MT-82 in my 'Stang. No exceptions. Both of my trucks are manual, and I won't have it any other way, especially for a sports car.

My current car has paddle shifters. I have always had manuals, but tried out the more family-friendly auto/sedan (C300) because of my little children -- thinking it would be almost as much fun as an MT. And while the car is fabulous to drive, the transmission (which is pretty darn good) always left me wanting. It just is not very satisfying (for me) to drive.

Which is why I am going to get a manual again.

As good of a trans as the 6r80 is, and it is faster than a manual in a s197...I'll be going with an auto, if I do in fact like the 15'

Wouldn't consider anything but a manual.

My 11 has a manual but I think I'm going to go auto next time around. I think I can have enough fun with those paddle shifters.
