Hey guys,

I‘ve got 2018 that I’ve owned for almost 3 years now as it’s reaching the end of the warranty. It worked perfectly until last night. I did 2 light-mid throttle accelerations. I almost stalled on the second but managed to recover. After the second acceleration I started hearing a weird thumping noise. I started driving it home and when I stopped half way, it stopped but did a little putter after a rev when the rpms would drop. I then continued home and when I was going uphill in 5th gear the car jerked like something happened to the transmission and started thumping more violently then last time. I pulled over and turned the car off. Afterwards the car struggled to turn on, was running cold and it still kept thumping. It’s currently going to the dealership as I’m under warranty. Should I be worried, and will my warranty cover it.

Also, WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT? I haven’t been able to find anything about it. It’ll thump no matter what rpm I’m at, I just didn’t check if it would do it if I depressed the clutch.

Hello; Too many possible causes of the thump to do more than guess. You should be fine and if still under 36/36 warranty they will have to fix it. If it is an internally lubricated engine or transmission part then that ought to be warranted for five years and 60,000 miles.

Well here’s the sound of the thumping if that helps

Hey guys,

IAfterwards the car struggled to turn on, was running cold and it still kept thumping.
Hello; This and your other post makes me think there is a possible internal engine issue. I gather the noise is with the engine running and the car not moving. Many years ago I spun or oil starved a connecting rod bearing on a 351 W V8. It thumped in a similar way. I was able to drive home. The thump was louder when I let off the gas. I did have to do a rebuild but the engine was not a total.

Keep in mind I am just guessing. There could be other things going on. Let us hope the warranty will cover whatever it is.

It’ll knock no matter what I do. Idle, driving, rev. Doesn’t matter. Will always do it. I thought it might be transmission because of how the transmission caused the car to jerk and previously I did almost stall before accelerating. However any guess is good.

By knocking I just mean the noise btw.

Dose it get worse the higher the ram's are. Sounds like a rod I've had 2 90s lt1 cars that had rod bearings fail. they sounded similar to your issue.

About the same. It matches the rpm in terms of speed so I thought it was piston slap tbh.

Also I got the bumper to bumper warranty. Think that’ll cover it?

Usually top end issues have a faster taping sound and will get worse as rpm rises. Bottom end issues Usually makes more of a thumping sound like your experiencing. Was the engine getting hotter than normal.

Engine temp was running fine and in fact the non digital gauge for it said it was more cold than anything even though I’d be run all day. In fact there was no check engine light or anything that went off when it started messing up. It just got an oil change but no signs of it being put on wrong.
