Has anyone Plasti-dip painted their wheels? How does it hold up?

I have a 2019 Kona Blue Ecoboost PP and I'm not crazy about the black wheels. I really like their design, but would prefer if they were silver. I know, black wheels are all the rage now, but this older guy (55) can't get into them no matter how much I try.

I know that surface prep is the key, as with any paint job. But how does it hold up over time? My Mustang is more a pleasure vehicle and I occasionally drive it to work on nice days. In all likelihood I will be removing them from the car to get the inside of the wheel too.

Any comments/advice would be greatly appreciated, even the ones knocking me for wanting to paint them silver.

Held up fine for me over about a year, but just make sure to stay on top of keeping it clean because it'll look dingy quick. I wouldn't do the barrel though, just more work for not much reward if you ask me.

If you know you prefer the silver, I'd get them painted/powder coated to ensure no durability issues and to eliminate any concerns about washing with certain chemicals or power washing.

I've done ONLY the barrel on previous cars. That way after a year or 2 I can peel it all off and there is no brake dust caked to it, it looks new. Much easier than scrubbing them regularly.

No brake dust caked to the wheel barrel itself or to the plastidip? I had a friend that did the barrel and the removal process was awful, but I'm not sure if he layered it properly in there or not, could have been his issue.

None on the barrel. I but a piece of cardboard to use as backing then applied 4 layers to the inside of the wheel. After it dried I pulled the cardboard out. It wasnt very hard to remove it was thick enough that once I got the edges started it pulled up in just a few larger pieces. Then I gave it a light scrubbing and it was good as new inside.

I plastidipped my wheels on my 2011 Mustang. I first shot the wheels in black plastidip and then sprayed gunmetal automotive paint over that. The finish held up just fine but, if you get a flat or, they have to dismount the tires they will likely tear up the edge and you will have to either strip them or attempt to touch them up.

I dipped mine the second day I had the car. I used just plain black and it has held up for almost 3 years. I will be peeling it off to do a different color soon though. Just make sure you spray enough coats (1 can per wheel is recommended).
