I was trying to get away from gloss. I used 5 coats, no glossifier or any other such thing. I did mask off the surrounding areas, which made application easier.
Can I ask why?? I did 5. Coats of plasti dip but it looks weird I wanted a satin look

Why no gloss
I specifically didn't want gloss -- I don't care for that shiny chrome look. I wanted to keep the badging but make it more subdued without going with the black-out look. I feel that chrome/shiny badges detract from the lines of the car, and they look cheap. If I had the option to buy actual badges similar to the OEM style but in actual pewter, for example, that would be awesome.

Great look man!
How did you paint the pony? did you cover the surrounded area or took it off?

Yes sir pretty easy. I took my time on masking everything end result was amazing - easy clean up too no over spray

I think it looks good! I was thinking about doing this on my Eco.

Just did mine the other day. Highly recommend. I bought 5.0 emblems on eBay in black for 20 shipped and they look oem. Figured it would be better than having to touch up every so often.

Anyone take the Ponys off to paint? I want to black chrome mine but I need them off. Do you have to take the grill out to get the front one off?
I tried to take the pony off the grill while I had the grill out and couldn't get it off. As I recall, it's attached with those "one-way" push on type washer clips that slide over a pin and dig in to it. I didn't want to risk breaking a pin off so I decided not to paint it.

I used 4 coats of Blaze Blue and 2 coats of Glossifier on mine. It's definitely not glossy, but more like a satin instead of flat.

I also use plastidip. I put a total of 5 coats to make it durable and easy to remove.
