I got some questions:

1. Do I need a catch can? The 2018s are port and direct injected so they dont need a catch can for oil separation right? I want to improve reliability

2. Are 2016/2017 models significantly better than first year 2015 models? Should I keep an open mind for the 2015s? I heard the 2015s have some rattling/squeaking build issues?

thank you!

I have a 15 and i am boosted, i made it as reliable as possible since i didnt want to get caught stuck on the street EVER. Catch can helps a ton, it shouldn't make or break your choice.

I did buy my 15 GT with 7k miles though last year stock though.. But overall these are great cars but as always test drive them. Overall if im correct you do get sync 3 on the 16-17 which i think has apple car play.

You do not “need” a catch can... if you want to blow money, yes you can use a catch can.

The year/make/model is subjective, it’s personal preference. There’s no major differences between the 2015 and 2016-2017. There’s a driveline thread in the Issues sub-forum. The 2015-2017’s had driveline vibe issues across all platforms, BUT it did not affect every single S550’s through those years - so you could get lucky and find one without issues.

Watch pricing... I’ve seen 2015-2017 5.0’s priced as high as 2018+... why spend 2018+ money on a 2015-2017 UNLESS we revert back to the statement above - personal preference to body styles....

2015-17 vs 2018+ reliability:
They’re all reliable. Yes there are some common issues amongst all, but all have been outlined on this site in many of the sub-forums and each “issue” has a fix whether it’s via warranty repair at a Ford Dealer or a DIY for those out of warranty.

If you’re concerned about minor issues, then try to buy an S550 that still retains a 3/36 bumper to bumper and 5/60 Powertrain OR has a transferable ESP warranty. There is also plenty of aftermarket warranty companies to choose from if needed.

Also remember this site is just a small slice of S550 ownership, so don’t take all you read as 100% gospel as to any issues you may read about. Many owners have not had ANY issues at all.

That's us. We got our 2015 premium manual convertible late may this year. We have 9k miles on her so far and couldn't be happier. It took a while to find the Big 3 (V8, manual gearbox, convertible) within our driving range, but it was worth the wait. Out the door for $22k.
