Many of the responses in this thread make people look much worse than someone looks for simply parking next to you. It's public parking people - expect your car to occasionally have a friend. Getting upset when you find a car next to you?? Come on! Save the hate for something worth while. At best, door dings are annoying. A car simply parked next to you - regardless of how far out you park - shouldn't even register on the scale.

How about this!
I come out of the JC Penny store and enter the parking lot. As I approach my car I find a woman digging through her handbag which is sitting on my trunk lid. (Most of these handbags have little metal or plastic feet that SCRATCH). I asked her if this was her car and what was she doing. I got a dumb look and a reply. "I'm looking for my keys" So I said "Here let me help you" then I grabbed her handbag and tossed it into the parking lot where it spilled everything all over the place. She had this unbelievable look as I got into my car, started it and said "Doesn't look like a table to me" and I drove away.
You handled the situation well

I think the focus of the conversation is about people who purposely screw with guys who like to park out away from everyone. I mean that last thing on my mind it to say "Hey look ... there's a nice new sports car parked all along way out there, I think I'll go park next to him to try and freak him out and piss him off!"

I mean what kind of mentality is going on in someone's skull that thinks that way? Are these people trying to make themselves feel like they exist in the world or what? Maybe can't stand to think someone has a nice car and doesn't want it messed up, so he'll try to mess it up to make himself feel better? Whatever it is, it's fucked up.

I mentioned the thing that goes on in my town a while back where some people (particularly the older folks) are hardcore into the Jante Laws and get triggered by actions they perceive as someone being too full of themselves, so in this case doing stuff like this is their way of saying "you're not special because you have a new car, we ALL have to risk little fender-benders whenever we park, stop acting like you're above the rest of us".

Which wouldn't bother me as much if it weren't for horror stories like that flipped GTO. Needless to say, I'm not planning on taking the 'Stang I get into town that much.

The thing is, those people who mess with other people because they perceive someone as being "too full of themselves" are total hypocrites because when people screw with other people based on that mentality, then they are obviously the ones who are "too full of themselves".

People need to learn how to leave other people alone if they aren't bothering them ... that's always how I've operated throughout life. I don't go looking for people to screw with, what's the point or reason for doing stupid shit like that - it will just get you in trouble sooner or later. "Don't Tread on Me" is my motto ... but if you f*#k with the snake you'll end up getting bit at some point.

Yeah, I've never understood the tall poppy syndrome mindset. "We don't achieve much in life, so how ****ing dare you attempt to do more than us" is just...guh. :frusty:

I mean, okay, I can sort of get the idea that everybody takes the same risks when they go out for a drive to somewhere and this includes the guy with a particularly nice car. But to get THAT mad at people just for standing out a little is insane to me.

If I don't find any damage done to my car, I just move on.
I don't really want to become physically ill over this stuff.

(Maybe that is middle age talking. :D)

The best one that almost made me loose my mind was in a McDonald's car park (12 hour shifts that finish at 7am, so excuse me if I don't feel like cooking :p )

I parked my Pro_Cee'd GT all nice and considerate, and I had clear visibility of my car from the table in the restaurant. Then along comes a SEAT Ibiza (Spanish sub-compact, for any Americans out there).

He parks next to me and he has the 3-door Sport Coupé model like the one in the picture linked, meaning long doors, in the most horrible shade of orange. Now, I too have a 3-door coupé and I take great care not to let the doors swing out too far and ding someone else's ride as well as my own.

This guy? He opens the door (remember, I'm sitting at my table and have a direct line of sight with my car) and he just, lets go of the door. Just flat out lets go of the handle and it swings out on its own momentum.

WHAM

Mouth agape, almost chocked on a McMuffin. He saw me almost instantly (my face must've been a picture). So he comes in with his make-up drenched tart of a girlfriend dressed like the biggest douche-canoe in raybans and a white jacket. I'm still giving him the the fuck did you just do to my car!? look.

First words out of his mouth were, and I quote, "I didn't do anything, mate, your car's fine."

Thankfully, no dent. Kia's are built of tougher stuff these days. However I had a rather scratch line a few CMs long on the front wing that I had to polish out when I got home.

:tsk::mad:

This....

:frusty:

His drunken hilarity wasn't so funny when he came out to maybe a foot and a half larger of angry human being standing there waiting to get my car out from behind his craptastic truck.
This makes me glad I live in a country where Trucks are only ever purchased for work purposes and have to be kept spotless or else their company fleet manager will bring the hammer down on them. It means anyone in a pickup stays well-the-fuck away and gets just as angry if someone dings it.

Plus it helps when a "large" pickup in the UK is no wider than a hatchback. :D The Mustang is actually wider than a T6 Ranger.

I like this. Kind of reminds me of a story I heard on another forum. Someone parked extremely close to the OP's driver side, forcing him to enter the car from the passenger door. He promptly got his Club, smashed in the other person's driver's window, locked the Club to the steering wheel, and drove away - only pausing to ditch the Club keys in the nearest storm drain.
Literally lol'd at work.

Though not a "parking lot" situation I had a very interesting event recently:

Just a few months ago I was at a red light and was about the fifth vehicle back. There was a turning lane to my left and I was the last vehicle that could have made it into the lane. Prior to reaching the redlight I had noticed an older guy (55-65) in a white Hyundai velociter flying up on my ass. When I came to a stop it was clear he wanted to make the left turn but wasn't legally able to because I had the turning lane blocked. I watched him in almost hilarity as he was VERY agitated.

He wasn't having it... He drove up on the median to try and make the green arrow to turn left, in the process he dragged his entire car from the front fender, through the door and rear quarter panel down the bumper of my 15 year old truck. He didn't make the green arrow though. Cross traffic was already crossing and he had to wait.

In utter WTF disbelief of what just happened I backed up, and drove into the turning lane behind him. Threw it park, jumped out, took a picture of his plate and started beating on his window mother f'ing him and tell him he was gonna pull the F over as soon as we were out of the intersection. I got back in my truck and immediately called 911 and began relaying the situation because he was obviously going to run.

Light changed and sure enough he did. I followed him for about 4 miles through backroads at one point doing 70 in a 25 until he finally pulled into his own driveway. WTF. I got out and unleashed verbal hell. He immediately got all apologetic. I asked him why he did it and he only replied "I don't have a good reason". I told him police were already on the way and he seemed un-phased. He just kept saying sorry.

Police came, questioned him a little and ultimately just let him off with no charges (his insurance still had to pay for my damages). He told the police the exact same thing when they asked what his hurry was - "I don't have a good reason".

It was around $1500 in damages to my truck and no doubt more than $5000 to his own. I ultimately concluded he had some type of mental issue and probably missed his meds. It just made no sense.

Yes I have pics. I'll add them when at home.

Oh, and the best part was this speed demon was wearing a tony stewart tshirt lolol.

Egads! I am glad it was your truck that was damaged instead of your mustang!

I had a specific incident a month or two ago. I HAD to make an emergency run to Wal-Mart (hate that place to begin with) because it was the only store open that late. I parked waaaay out, under a street light (with camera attached) just to be safe. I came out, no longer than 15 mins later, to find some asshole parked his POS Hyundai right next to me. SO, i decided to flip up his wiper blades and left a lil saliva on his door handle. :D That will teach him (hopefull ) the next time he decides to be "cute" and park on top of a nicer vehicle when there is ample parking else where.
Either that or find you parked somewhere else and return the favor in spades.

Good grief, people--the lesson here is: if you don't want people parking next to you, don't draw unnecessary attention to your car. Don't park out in no man's land. Park a handful of spaces past the last car, and that's it. You will thank me later. Parking that far out makes your car a target for people, for various reasons.
