After 60k on my 2019 Bullitt it was time to adjust the parking cable as it was not holding on sloped ground anymore.
Rear brakes were changed about 5k miles previously.
The big 'ol resonator on the Bullitt's are in the way so had to drop the exhaust some to get to the adjustment nut. Tightened it down more and the hand brake engaged nicely.
After about 1k miles it's back to being pulled all the way to engage and not holding on sloped ground again.
Before i drop the exhaust again and check are there any suggestions on why it may have loosened back up?

Ive been planning on getting my car up in the air and doing this myself as well (when the weather cools down)
Ive heard guys say to put some loctite on the threads to keep it from backing out again. Thats my plan as well

Marker witness marks and measurements of the existing parts are good incase it happens a third time. A second jam nut can be added to stop it backing out. How often was the brake applied over the 1k?

Try just yanking it about 15 times in a row. They're mostly self adjusting. Yes there's a nut down there on the cable, but you rarely have to go through the effort to get to that.

It's manual so it's always used.
I tried the pull th ehandle 15 times trick to get it to self adjust but nothing.
Guess I'll be going back under to see if the adjuster nut has backed out and use some locktite if so.

I'm not aware the S550 platform ever used a self adjusting ratchret contraption on the handle like older generations, is the self-adjusment feature built into the caliper corkscrew mechanism?
Yea, its in the caliper, but if you overtighten the cable it can hit physical stops before the self adjusting mechanism can engage, so try loosening the cable a bit first, and then cranking the handle a few times, then readjust the cable but not too much. There seem to be measurements for how many mm loose if you search.

The cable adjustment is for if the cable itself stretches but the self adjustment (which compensates for pad wear) is on the caliper.

I had the same issue with parking brake handle almost all the way up not holding the car. Adjusted the cables and it worked okay for about a year and back to the same thing. Pulled the back wheels off to make sure the cables weren't seized and found one of the rear caliper parking brake levers seized, verified with a heat gun after driving - was about 90 degrees hotter than the other side. Replaced the rear caliper and all good now. Just something else to check before going through the hassle off adj. the cables again.

Yes, the parking brake mechanism in the caliper screws out the piston to account for pad wear.

Thanks for all the info. The rotors and pads were replaced but I'll go through the steps an check everything out.
