Painting over existing caliper paint

Hi all, I just purchased a GT350 and am getting my initial mods list together.

Currently the calipers are painted orange, but I’d like to paint them red. Is this as easy as sanding existing paint with 320, cleaning, taping up, and then respraying red?

If the existing paint appears to be well bonded to the caliper, that’s what I would do… But I’m certainly no pro painter!

2 part epoxy paint if you want it to look good and last. G2 etc. Brembo stickers are all over Amazon

Yes, sand them down. Agree with Tony, G2 has a great kit. In addition to their standard colors, they do offer Mustang-specific colors (they use Mustang paint codes for those colors). A few different shades of Mustang red are offered.

It really depends on how nice you want them to look. Me personally I wouldn’t paint over what’s there. But to be honest I’m an old paint and body guy. I’d pull them off the car to to paint them but even if you didn’t it can be done without a lot of hassle on the car. I’d hit them with air craft stripper and then rinse all the old material off. Literally takes less then a half hour. Then do the paint process, whichever you choose. G2 is ok, but I used a quality 2k sealer, then base, mid coat, and clear. Automotive. Decals on after the base/mid and under the clear. There is a big difference in the appearance. But once again, it’s how picky you are. Me, admittadly, I’m a picky … . Here’s some pics with aftermarket wheels and oem before I sold the car. Sorry for the duplicate, not sure why it did that.

Remember prep is king. If current paint is good use a degreaser before doing any sanding. I would also use an adhesive promoter before painting. G2 is a brush on. I've used it on two vehicles and it held up well. There are also some good spray paints if you care to take the calipers off the car.

And they CAN make any factory paint color IF they think they could sell enough. They sell those for a higher price. I worked with them to add Velocity Blue to match my painted stripes. It got interesting because G2 seemed to get some raw materials from a specific source. I had to first convince that source to offer Velocity Blue before G2 would do it.

After all that, I wish I hadn't. I ended up not liking it because it looked too dark/drab behind the wheels. Should have done a generic bright red.

Note: at that time at least, G2 did not offer any actual metallic or pearl colors but an identical non-metallic.
