They look really nice. What kind of paint did you use, and how did you prepare the surface?

1. Cleaned the surface with prepsol (can use alcohol)
3. Three coats of primer - 15 min in between
3. Three coats of engine enamel paint - 15 min in between
2. Two coats of high temp clear coat gloss

I can't believe how great it looks. What brand of paint did you use, or does it matter?

Did the same! But opted to leave the engine cover off.

Thanks. I found several online vendors who sell engine paint in Ford colors. That will be my next project for sure. Mine is Race Red, so I think it will look great. I'll post when I'm done in a few weeks.

Did you mask off the letters on the valve covers? Looking to do this soon with Ruby Red pain from automotive touch up and black engine enamel with clear coat. Did you wet sand, polish, etc?

I didn't wet sand as I like the rough finish, but a wet sand will give you a nice smooth finish.

The process I used for the letters was the one in this video [ame] forward to about 24 min to see

I tried his method and did not work, maybe my paint dried too fast but before I could even wipe it with thinner it was dry. ...here is what I did.

Prime (2-3 coats)
Painted all red - 3 coats. (I did not spray the middle part of the center shield red - mine is black so I masked it off)
Let cure overnight.
Masking tape over bars/letters and then used razor to cut them out. Used a small rubber tool to really press the edges of tape down.
Spray black (3 coats) then remove tape.
Let cure over night
Clear - 2 coats

I left my textured as well to match the other black areas.
