But you've got to admit, for a vehicle that is mass-produced, they are churning out some quality stuff. Compare to a Mustang from the 90's, 80's or even the '70s - and these cars are effing glorious in comparison.

Black cars through-out time usually get slightly better preparation. Back in the 60's and '70s with Chrysler or AMC in particular, there was a $16 dollar surcharge for black-painted cars. It was to cover the additional prep necessary to turn out an acceptable job. Dunno if Ford ever did that to my knowledge. I know on certain models, both Ford and GM did not allow black paint as an option simply to keep costs down.
I've seen some black s550's that had plenty of issues. The QA team st Ford is fast asleep and deserve no credit. "Mass produced" is expected to turn out the same product at high volume so no idea why anyone thinks this is good.

The paint job on my RRM '17 GT350 is far better than the one on my old Magnetic '15 GTPP. On the '15 the paint still felt rough to the touch even after waxing. On the '17 it's smooth as silk and looks fantastic.

Process improvements, differences in paint color, different process for GT350s, or random chance? No idea, but it is a better paint job this time around for me.

This x100. Mass produced is no excuse...it is not like every BMW is made by hand. Ford thinks obvious, lazy errors are ok...I do not. Had I read this forum and more closely inspected my custom ordered Mustang at delivery, I likely would have denied delivery until a few issues were addressed.

Paint on my '15 is pretty damn good too. Car's only seen one coat of Liquid Glass to date and detail sprays, no other paint trickery.

The only real gripe I had with the body/paint on mine was grind marks on the top of the rear quarter kickup on the passenger side.....but the GT350TP spoiler hides that perfectly. :D

But you didn't refuse delivery. None of us did. That is why the cars are that way. Ford researched the $^%* out of those things and decided they would sell more cars with just slightly lower prices or make more money per car by not spending the money to eliminate these issues. Sure BMWs are mass-produced but smoother paint, perfect gaps, etc. didn't come free. But BMW decided customers would pay for the difference. They can both be right because of the demographics of the customers.

So when I look at my panel alignment, I blame the rest of you for not refusing delivery so Ford would be forced to make them better. ;)

You are right about the fact that I contributed to the problem by not doing a thorough check before taking delivery. It won't happen again.

The orange peel in my black paint (MY16) was almost non-existent, it has some of the typical black paint cobwebs, but I think that's mostly from mediocre detailing.

ROFL Actually, I did fight it out with Ford Service and they sucked, my dealer special ordered me a 17 and it's ok but not close to what I expect and we should all speak up. I look at the new cars on the lots and can't believe Ford calls this acceptable margins They really need retraining of ISO 9001

I've got a black 2015 PP GT there was a paint coverage problem on the trunk lid it looked like a bronze color in the sunlight, after further inspection with a light I could see that the paint coverage was very light as you could see the metal underneath. Also the seam of the trunk lid close to the rear window area was all wavy from being welded when they fused the 2 layers of the trunk lid together at the factory , I also have a paint coverage problem on both rear quarter panels just below the side quarter glass but you can only see it with a light if you look real close. I removed the trunk lid to have it repaired however I wouldn't dare let them touch the quarter panels as they would surely wreck the car, it just sucks that you spend this kind of money on a new car and you still have to make compromises.

The detail job is great. The paint isn't as good.

hoods roofs and trunks lay down better.. i know for me they do . flat surface will always be smoother and less peel . and since these are sprayed by robots, in a booth with 6 to 10 spray nozzles.they come out alot more even all around , and blacks always a pain to get no peel.. and no way is ford sanding and buffing any of these cars . every time i paint a black car i always sand a buff cause . human error some panels have more clear then others, and same with peel ..
