Anyone have pictures with their dash trim painted? Cars going to the body shop soon and considering having my PP1 dash trim paint matched to my body color (Magnetic). Anyone have any pictures of what it’d look look like or how it came out?

Might I suggest something in a vinyl wrap?

It'd show close to same, while keeping the option of changing or removing it with ease later.

I would wrap it before painting.
I agree with them. Wrap won't scratch as easily and if it does it's easier to fix than paint. And like they said it's easily reversible.

Thanks guys for the input! Seems like a really
good idea! Anyone have any examples of a wrapped dash? Would love to see some ideas

OP I definitely suggest listening to my dude @Skye, wrapping the dash will be much easier and probably better over time. I think paint on the dash might crack if painted due to plastic bits heating up and cooling down rapidly from AC. I feel that old cars with metal dash boards would absolutely hold up to being painted but with our cars being textured plastic I think it would be a bad idea. Plus I think there would be a chance that if you were cleaning/dusting off the painted dash that debris would scratch up the paint. At least a wrap would be more forgiving. 3M has a wide variety of colors so I am sure that you will be able to find a color pretty close to the metallic gray of your car if you put in some research.

If you do decide to actually paint the dash, definitely post pics. Pretty sure all of us would be curious to see how it looks. Good luck! 👍

Some of the film companies sell swatches so you try a few different colors/shades. Some might even just send out swatches, I haven’t looked recently to see who does what. Lots of options, I’m sure you can find one close to what you’re looking for

Lots of trim comes painted piano black and cleared. If you want it painted it will work as long as the prep is done properly. For my e46 m3 I matched my trim to the exterior which is titanium silver. The light silver works great because any light swirls from cleaning are invisible. I'm not sure I would do trim in anything other than black, silver, or grey. Could end up looking tacky but you are magnetic so I think it would look pretty darn good. Remember, prep is the key.

VVIVID makes a gloss metallic wrap that’s very close to J7 magnetic called Ultra Gloss Candy Charcoal Grey. I’ve also been considering changing up the interior a bit so I’m interested in how your project turns out.
