A grey car
4600 miles in and had the underseal done at Modurstang yesterday.
Great photos, looks like a really nice job done by folks who actually care. Does make you wonder what the hell goes on in Zeebrugge :tsk:. Dare I ask the obvious question with regard to cost?

Fitted the PMAS intake today at circa 4700 miles. :)

In short, it's an intake with a massive cone filter and a HUGE modular tube from the airbox to the throttle body which supposedly reduces the drag/turbulence of the airflow through it which obviously is a good thing.

Here's the science behind it: http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22113&highlight=pmas

Reservoir needs to be moved an inch or so to make room for the tube via a supplied bracket:

As is common when ordering parts for a LHD car, some small modifications were needed; namely a slight filing down of the outside of the airbox in order to gain a bit more clearance around the earth point and cable, which I assume are not there on the LHD cars as the battery is on the other side:

Along with having to snip a couple of small pieces off the base of the filter assembly as there was only enough space to fit the nuts in, not actually get any kind of tool to tighten them up as well:

Fit between soundtube and the other one is a bit too snug for my liking, although I'm planning to remove that so only an issue if you're a bit OCD:

All finished, time for a test drive:

Fired it up and the idle was a little quick, quicker even than a typical cold start. Let it idle for 30 seconds or so and switched off as per the instructions. Fired back up, still had a slightly faster than preferred idle but by the end of the road it had returned to normal.

First impressions would seem to confirm the hype, namely there is definitely improved throttle response, to the point where I would compare it to the difference between normal & sport mode. Not quite as noticeable as that, but it's that KIND of difference i.e. the car wants to take-off with reduced throttle pedal inputs. How that translates into BHP gains I don't know, but PMAS were claiming nigh on 20bhp just with this standard, non-tuned version. I hope to get it on a dyno at some point to check with back-to-back runs.

There is a gap between the PMAS airbox & the intake in the grill, but apparently the PMAS system lost power when any kind of connection was made between the two so they've left the gap. The airbox does extend forward far enough that sucking warm air in from the engine bay isn't going to be a concern, especially since I have a mesh grill and therefore more cold air coming from the front anyway.

Clearance between the system and the bonnet is, as mentioned in the instructions, extremely tight, to the point where I know the bonnet lining is touching it. Just means the bonnet needs to be lowered onto the catch and shut with a little shove, rather than dropped from 6".

Glad you managed to sort out your fitting worries. Interested to hear if the idle sorts itself out and dyno results.

Good job

Definitely looks a lot better in the flesh than it does in all the pics I've seen. Pics tend to make it look GINORMOUS but I think the pic I've taken is a little bit more true to life.

Yeah, idle was fine by the end of the road. When I said fast, I'm only talking another 150rpm or so.

Dyno results will be interesting for sure. :D

Info seems to be that to really take advantage of this intake the car needs to be mapped, so the fact it feels better just by installing the hardware is promising.

Interested in doing this but,
Bit of an old question, but what effect would this have on any warranty claim ?

Cheeky little mod to finish the day off:

Top tip when fitting these: don't try and cheat by not bothering to jack the car up thinking it'll be a doddle to just squeeze under the back and get it done that way. It's not. :frusty: But of course by the time you realise you would've been far better off taking the time to get the jack and axle stands, you're too far into the job for it to be worthwhile. So you carry on, Then think about the axle stands again. But carry on anyway. Rinse and repeat several more times and the job's finished! :D

None.

As long as you put the old one back on. ;)

As has been mentioned previously, I think it was stevec that said Ford told him directly that any issue would have had to have been DIRECTLY caused by a modification for it not to get sorted out under warranty.

Moreover, when I spoke to them they said that they would have to PROVE that it had been caused by the modification!

Looks great and clearly now faster than Gibbo's ;)

How easy did you find the hook up for the side markers (aside from lifting the car). I fitted mine but haven't wired them yet.

If I'd bothered to get it on axle stands at the very least it would've taken all of 10mins!

What I did find a pain was fitting the scotchlock connectors to the number plate light wires. Once you get the light out you've only got an inch or two of wire to get the scotchlocks on so that was pretty fiddly.

In theory this CAI is a very smart design. As the tune and no tune version both perform identical.

Reason for this is because on no tune version PMAS supply a MAF sensor which has the MAF tables pre-altered on the sensor itself meaning there is no need to tune the car for the larger diameter size.

It is a very smart idea as removes the element for requiring a tune for an intake with a larger diameter maf tube size which helps with horsepower beyond 5500rpm upto 8000rpm range.

Of course a tune also give horsepower gains as well, this intake alone should give gains. A tune also gives gains in horsepower as a tune does a lot more than just alter the maf tables for larger diameter tubes.

My car on a canned tune gained nearly 20BHP and 30lb/ft from just a tune using stock intake. :)

Stock my car was 416BHP / 400lb/ft (drop in filter, Corsa Sport)
SCT Tune 436BHP / 420lb/ft (With 30-40lb/ft gains in 1500-4000rpm range).

I shall re-dyno again soon, made some updates that really improved the car, might not show on a dyno but to drive I am super happy. Will update my own thread at somepoint just being on holiday for past few weeks and now super busy with work. :)

Longest run since getting the car, done this weekend over to Luxembourg for a Euro meet.

MORE than impressed at the MPG figures! :hail:

Spa Francorchamps to the Chunnel on CC@70mph:

That's a genuine 31MPG too since I reset the OBC's calibration.

Was the new PMAS intake at all responsible for this? No idea, but it certainly doesn't appear to have done the economy any harm. :)

Fuel economy should remain same buddy as it has a calibrated maf, only at full throttle it might use some additional fuel, but will be minimal.

What AFR do you get at full throttle in 4th say 50-70mph?
