4600 miles in and had the underseal done at Modurstang yesterday.

After 4600 mostly dry miles there wasn't a lot of dirt and cack hiding anywhere. Arch liner removed:

Bits masked off, and then cleaning began:

Finished article:

Good job Zeebrugge, way to get that overspray on the paintwork. Modurstang Mike removed all of this prior to them spraying:

Heatshield removed:

Protected:

As you can see, they stripped the entire underside of the car; wheels, arch liners, exhaust, propshaft, heatshields, plastic guards etc etc.

In the thick of it now:

Also finally got the rear vertical links fitted (after I'd had 2 attempts myself and failed miserably! Not just my lack of skills, Mike did say they're a bastard to do & having watched how they did it, I can see why I couldn't manage it sat on my arse in the carpark!):

I don't know whether it was my imagination but the back end felt noticably better on the ride home. When compared to the OE items though, it's easy to see how and why it may not have been my imagination:

How long does the underseal take to do?

Thinking about having mine done there - looks like they actually care about what they do.

From getting on the ramp to driving out, probably a good 5 hours.

Hard to be accurate since they fitted a short-shifter & rear links as well, but 5 hours purely for the underseal is a good figure I think.

If you're considering any other mod such as exhaust/suspension etc etc then get it done at the same time as almost all of it has to be removed to do the underseal anyway.

Really good job
In fact you should have got them to go over the white on top too ;)

Just kidding...wish I knew of someone up in Scotland that would do that thorough a job.

So along with the underseal and rear links, I also had my Barton short-shifter fitted.

I went for the shortest throw version which reduces travel by 25% and although the throw is now shorter, the side-to-side travel is where most of the reduction has been made.

The Barton has 3 levels of resistance, achieved by removal/installation of springs within the cartridge & I've had mine set on "medium", which is still a lot stiffer than standard. I couldn't imagine what the hardest setting is like as the medium was that stiff I didn't even bother trying it!

This was bought before I'd even sat in one, let alone driven one, so had no idea what the standard shift would be like. It certainly makes a good, noticeable difference and the gearchanges are much improved, but would I buy this having driven a standard car? Not sure. I will at some point be back to Modurstang to get the gearbox oil swapped out for the Royal Purple they keep in stock so will report back on whether just an oil change is worth doing to improve the shifts rather than splashing out on a whole new shifter.

TBH that's why it's taken until 4600 miles in to get mine done. I didn't know where to start looking until Modurstang were mentioned in the underseal thread as doing it.

I'm chuffed to bits with the Barton. All the slop is gone as has vibration and each change is a snap. I did have a play with it with all the springs in before install and it was ridiculously stiff - unusable probably. Oil change = bye bye warranty (oil composition one of the main things checked when mine went in for noise investigations). Still not sure I trust the 'box to last 3 years.

Interesting, both the under seal application technique and the Barton, identical to what I had done when the suspension was changed (except for the Barton). Masked everything and took off all the wheel arch liners.

I had to leave mine overnight though to dry properly and then they did the suspension the next day.

I've toyed with a short shifter and the MGW was on the cards for a while, but as you say, I wanted to wait and see what all the fuss was re the stock shift, it's not as bad as I feared, not nearly so, in fact, it's pretty good.

Hmmm...food for thought :D

Keep up the good work
