I did actually purchase a bit of proper alcantara from the suppliers to Bentley and Aston Martin yesterday. I got it for less than half price (about ÂŁ30 for a square metre or so) as it was the last off-cut they had from one of their giant rolls (they said they'd just ordered another THREE THOUSAND metres of it!!:eyebulge: ).

So I got it home and cut the rough shape for the largest dash piece, but it soon became apparent that alcantara needs some serious expertise and knowledge to be able to work it properly around such an awkward shape so as much as I would've loved to have used it, I just couldn't risk it.

With that in mind I went back to the place I got the original suede-type stuff from (having visited several other branches as they didn't appear to have the exact match) and lo and behold they had just enough to finish the job.

So although I have been describing it as fuzzing and furring, it is basically suede and makes the interior look a lot more expensive than we all know it is. Also makes the little bits of white piping stand out a bit more as well.

All in all, very happy with it and I shall be expecting some very flattering comments about it when y'all get to see it. You can keep ya gobs shut about my fake bonnet pins though!

First day of a small eurotrip (back on saturday)...

So apart from the satnav taking us on an hour's detour through a bunch of 30mph limits as I had it set to avoid tolls and the missus throwing up in the car (luckily a ziploc bag was handy otherwise we'd be on the way home right bloody now!!), it's been a reasonable start...

Quick visit to Reims and now holed up in a 4-star golf and spa resort costing ÂŁ80 for the night! :D

Route Napoleon tomorrow onwards to the Gorge du Verdon.

Spent last few days road tripping in California in a GT cab auto, epic roads and a great car. Ford should offer none PP cars in UK as they make better cruisers for sure.

Can't upload pictures due to mobile phone and crap signal.

Ha ha, I am sure Tony wont mind.
Stick some nipples and racing sponsor logos on the TY Cab and he will be overjoyed.

Come to think of it, I am pretty sure you hijacked my thread once as well!

This was much more of a ballache than you would think. Spent an hour out in the cold with a hairdryer heating up the old plate and removing it piece by tiny piece.

The original plate, whilst conforming to most of the regs, was technically illegal as it didn't display a BS mark (which no self-adhesive plate will). This new one is blatantly illegal in that the plate is too small for legal-sized font and also is non-reflective (something that wasn't pointed out when I ordered it!). Nevertheless, it's clear as day, the font is the correct style and it looks waaaaay better than the behemoth of a plate that I removed.

Also, I have now finalised everything for my new product...an armrest! :D

So now you don't have to sit with your arm awkwardly trapped by your side or resting uncomfortably on top of the cupholders whilst driving.

It's held in place by 6 small rubber feet so you can still use the space underneath for keys/wallet/sunglasses if required. If you want to put a drink in there then just lift it up and put it in the door pocket.

It's covered with a suede/alcantara-type material and matches an unmodified interior far better than it looks in my carbon-dipped, alcantara-covered interior!

I've had several people testing these long-term and they all loved it. :) It's one of those things that you don't realise is an issue until you try the solution. I know for me personally it made THE world of difference to the driving experience. Sitting on the motorway you can now plonk your elbow on it or just rest your whole forearm along it which doesn't SOUND like a lot, but honestly when you try it for yourself you'll see.
