Totally, theres dozens of mods getting done left right and centre from users of this forum alone, probably a lot undeclared to insurance, i cant see them turning round should the worst happen to say 'the corsa exhaust with decat and the induction kit are ok' but we aint paying out on a registration plate technicality

It's more for insurance than anything, i.e. giving them an excuse the wriggle out of paying out.

I was hit from behind a few weeks ago (not in the Mustang) and have pictures and an engineers report of the damage. The 3rd party insurance company haven't admitted liability, even though its fairly clear cut (rear shunt) with plenty of evidence. Instead, they are sending out their own assessor to check the car (which is old and high mileage). I may be being paranoid but I suspect they'll be looking for anything they can (tyre tread, mods etc.) to try and say the car was unroadworthy.
Thats the crap 'dont admit liability' culture we are in now days.
Few months ago, I was asleep in my bed when I was woken by a massive bang. Looked out the window and my parked car had been rear ended.
I was told that because it was not my fault that I could get a 'like for like' loan car (my car was an A class merc).
Next thing I know, I am running around in a poxy citroen c1 bacause the third party was saying I backed in to them!! Yes, seriously.

Last year, my insurance company asked my I hadn't notified them of the accident where I had reversed into someone, damaging their car and causing whiplash... shame for the other party I was out of the country and could prove the car was in a secure car park.

But it took me weeks (and a visit from an assessor) to prove I wasn't involved, I did ask why the other party were not going to be prosecuted for fraud - as this was a very clear cut case - and I was told it just wasn't worth it. But what would have happened if I didn't have stonewall proof...?

As we've discussed in many threads before, insurance companies are shocking, if you didn't have solid proof, they'd have probably gone with the other guy. Insurance companies wont prosecute for fraud as it'll cost them too much money, and in general insurance companies are just out to make a quick buck.

My younger brothers GF got rear ended on the weekend, by and old school jag XJS (One with the metal bumper), wrote her car off (It was a ÂŁ300 2002 Ford KA). Had to break it down to her why they'd wrote it off - Basically an insurance company look at a case as follows:

1) The second you call, the admin fee begins. Each call has a value put to it. (Or a cost in business sense)
2) If they have to send an assessor out, this has a fee
3) If they have to recover the vehicle, this has a fee
4) Repair parts, this has a fee
5) Labour for repairs, this has a fee
6) Courtesy car, again, a fee
7) Anything else - has a fee

If all of these added up is greater than the value of your car, chances are it's going to be wrote off.

Anyway - She's fortunate, in some way, she's alive, she's getting ÂŁ250 for the KA, and expected 5-9k from Whiplash, Concussion and other injuries she's abstained from the crash, apparently she's lucky her back isn't broken as she had a suitcase in the back absorb a lot of the pressure. The guy in the Jag claims "You just go at round abouts, don't you" oh the stupidity on british roads :frusty::eyebulge::eyebulge:

...The stuff they use is no longer 3M but a film called Xpel IIRC. The guy said it's pretty much identical to 3M but their support for their dealers is better in terms of keeping up to date with the latest cars and whatnot.

The film is supplied pre-cut (or at least the CAD drawings are supplied) to the installer & then they stick it all on. Took about 4 hours in total which included tinting the rear quarter windows.

Flim covers the entire front end about 1/3 up the bonnet and down the wings plus the door mirrors. He also stuck some strips up the inside of the front wheelarch as he had some extra "raw material".

Highly recommended company. I'll hand his phone number out if anyone wants it.
Took mine in for detailing today and he (the detailer) also really rates the XPEL stuff. He did say it's best done at the 'new car stage' rather than after stone chips, which made me even more gutted (got at least 1 meaty stone chip already). Yet another 'essential' for me to spend out on.

I've also noticed quite a few small scratches on the top of my rear bumper, next to the deck lid. This must have been caused by my fingers, opening the boot! Mentioned this to the detailer who said its due to the soft paint. Probably going to put an XPEL 'boot lip protector' on this bit. Either that or wear those white gloves they wear for handling very old library records.

I have one of these for the boot: http://spacecityspy.tictail.com/product/hands-free-trunk-close-kit

Whilst you still have to put your hand on the paintwork, most of the hardwork is already done so I thoroughly recommend getting one.

You can remove one boot strut but I found it then drops a bit too easily and slams shut rather than gently closes so put it back.

Just had the bill through for the film too; ÂŁ780 all in, which includes tinting the rear quarters plus the extra little bits he put on the arches and some tidying up of a couple of other little bits.

Just bought one in red. My biggest pet peeve with the car when I had a good muck about with the dealership's black GT very was the lack of boot handle. Seems like an odd oversight on the designer's behalf. Either that or its yet another feature missing from the European Mustangs. ;)

Nope, the yanks don't get anything either.

The guy selling those says the fastener needs tapping with a hammer when you install it.

I sourced another as I couldn't push it in with my thumb and hammering it never occurred to me.

It was a joke ;)

But yes - looks like the first "mod" on my car is a damn pull strap.

I'd seen these before on this forum, but for the life of me couldn't find again, so cheers for posting. Might as well order one for the price.

I think my bumper scratches must have been from opening the boot mind you. Don't wear any jewellery so I must have Wolverine fingernails and sandpaper fingers!

So I finally managed to fit something to my car after sunday's debacle involving the vertical links (full story to come when I actually fit them with all the other IRS bits): my bonnet struts!

As I should've expected, these weren't hassle-free either.

Undid the first nut, put bracket on to find this:

Something not quite right there. Having remembered one of you CO owners fitting these same struts, I did a bit of digging to find it was one of the Steves that had fitted them and indeed, had reported an issue: "there is a difference on the drivers side hinge that requires the main hole in the bracket extending and the cutting template is for left hand drive cars" Cheers SteveP.

The template just needed flipping over (you knew that, right Steve? ;) ),but the hole in the bracket had to be extended into the 4 o'clock position to allow it to come up and around the bonnet hinge and sit straight:

Once that was done it all went together easily:

Two things I will point out to those of you that decide to do this highly recommended mod;
1. make sure the struts are the right way round otherwise the writing will be upside down and you'll have to swap them over.

2. don't leave any tools on the inner wing as they may (will) end up falling down the MASSIVE gap between inner and outer wing and you'll have to pull the arch liner out to retrieve said tool:

All in all, thoroughly recommended, although I can't make up my mind if it's the appearance of the struts themselves or the lack of a bonnet prop that makes the difference.
