I know the feeling - Happened to me this week on motorway! Some crap (looked like builders ballast) falling off a dirty f'ing lorry in front, big massive stone hit and felt like someone hit the car with a sledgehammer.

Is it a type of 'clear bra' like they have in the states?

Basically, yes.

When I saw the US one at Think Guildford last year, it had a clear film on and although the film itself wasn't noticeable, the edges were as it was so thick.

The film I've had applied to mine is obviously a lot thinner as you can barely see the edges. The guy did say looking at the chip that if it had hit the film it probably would've marked the film but it wouldn't have touched the paint.

I was going to get it done by the guys that did the Martini stripes, but when they told me they'd located a kit which turned out to be for the previous model I went searching for an official 3M installer.

Contacted them (in Winnersh near Reading) & although they don't do auto films/tints anymore, they passed my details to their ex-employee that does that stuff now and he sent someone down from Manchester(!) to do my car at the Winnersh premises.

Cost is around the £600 mark (he did give me a quote but as I had some extras done and I've not had the invoice yet it's going to change).

The stuff they use is no longer 3M but a film called Xpel IIRC. The guy said it's pretty much identical to 3M but their support for their dealers is better in terms of keeping up to date with the latest cars and whatnot.

The film is supplied pre-cut (or at least the CAD drawings are supplied) to the installer & then they stick it all on. Took about 4 hours in total which included tinting the rear quarter windows.

Flim covers the entire front end about 1/3 up the bonnet and down the wings plus the door mirrors. He also stuck some strips up the inside of the front wheelarch as he had some extra "raw material".

Highly recommended company. I'll hand his phone number out if anyone wants it.

Can I also just mention to anyone thinking about doing their own grill like this, DON'T!

I'm saving all of about £100 quid doing it myself but that mesh is an absolute bastard to bend!! :frusty:

I still have to find the right adhesive to bond it to the grill too.

Just looked up the Xpel and turns out my detailer is an 'authorised installer'. I'm (finally) taking the car in for the "new car detail"/coating on Monday, so I'll ask about the Xpel.

My car was bulit on the 24th Sept 2015 so I don't know how this wiring loom "fix" has been done to mine and not some others but I assume this is it:



Interestingly I checked the other side to find this loom was hanging loose so plugged those two grey rings back into the holes in the body:

The offending stone chip the film installer noticed. Not huge, I know, but bloody annoying on an otherwise immaculate car:

I have a full set of Anchor Room light tints. Don't think i'll fit the headlights but i also got the corners to cover the amber reflector. Looks great on white; not sure i'll get the same effect on magnetic.

Stoopid question time. Are your rear quarter window tints on the outside?

Inside, so from certain angles there is a gap as he couldn't tint over the bobbly bits.

He did say it might be an option to get vinyl put over the whole thing on the outside.

As for the corner blackout; DO IT! Whilst you're there you might as well but I guarantee no matter what colour your car is it will make a huge difference. The amber doesn't do any colour any favours.
