A good point. However, many cars use active bonnets now, such as the Jaguar XF, and that has hood struts, as can be seen here. Of course, it could be that the struts are designed to break when the active system goes off :shrug:Surely the gas struts will affect the bonnet deployment system?
I know this isn't really relevant unless you hit a pedestrian - but perhaps could have legal ramification if you did given it has the potential to make the injury more serious?
Just sayin' ?
Yes it is a stupid question. ;)This might be a daft question, but i'll ask it anyway. Do the hood struts make the bonnet easier to lift or additionally heavy?
Thanks for clarifying both my buffoonery and the strut operationYes it is a stupid question. ;)
The bonnet is sooooo much nicer to open now. Whereas before it was quite a hefty bit of metal to lift aaalllllll the way up, now you lift it about a third of the way up and the struts take over and gently finish the job.
Closing it means gently pulling it down to overcome the struts and then keeping hold of it before it drops all the way and then dropping it the last 8" or so. That said, I think you could possibly let it go right from the point where the struts are "beaten". Depends how hard you're bothered about your bonnet slamming.
Definitely recommend getting some though.

Ah that explains it then, your car will drop more for sure!Hmmmm, maybe it was the sport kit I had then? It was definitely the kit that gives the least drop.
The after pic of the front isn't quite the same angle but the difference is just as marked as the back.
I did it all while it was in the air as I was a bit pushed for time. Should they be done when on the floor then?
And yes, car had been driven about 4 miles back from the garage.
Yes, that will be the one I munched. :doh:P.S. Your missing a wheel nut in your rear wheel !!!!
Did Ford not give you spare ones from when they fitted locking nuts? If not I have 4 spare ones, your welcome to one.Yes, that will be the one I munched.
Well I did still have the pole-jack holding the subframe up so it wasn't hanging free. The way you have done it is why many people say springs settle, they don't settle at all it is just because they torqued everything with the car in the air. ;)
