Ordering a new car. If you could have either the B&O stereo or active exhaust?

The B&O isn't that great...though, it is better than the base. The Active exhaust is nice....but if you like loud and think you will be replacing the axle-backs, it will be cheaper without the active exhaust.
Or just go AE and a X or H pipe shit gets loud then without being so loud that you can hear it the next State over.

Which mode is that?
Sounds like either Sport+ or Track. On the Bullitt, which I'm pretty sure has the same AE (the extra 20hp doesn't make a sound difference I don't think) the crackles don't show up unless in those two modes.

It's definitely not "Quiet" mode (DUH), you'd see one of the valves closed or hear the difference. Also, if I remember correctly on Quiet mode nothing (including exhaust fumes and vapor) comes out of the outer pipes, as they're completely closed off. I think.

I could upload a video I did cycling through all the modes, but not sure if too large to put here.

Active exhaust. You can upgrade the stereo later, but AE built in is tough to do. The B&O is nice though but the ability to quiet start with my h-piped car is great. Also great for those long road trips where you don't want the exhaust blaring the whole time in your ear.

....What would you guys do?
Not sure if you can do it after already having posted your discussion, but you could add a poll. I am kind of gathering that majority is voting for AE.

Yes, that's my impression as well, that it's one of those two. But I'm wondering which one. :)
From my experience, the differences between Sport+ and Track are very subtle. The crackles and pops are more pronounced in Track, so I'd say his video is Sport+, but being in a garage the echo might fool us.

Not sure if the link will work as it's my first YT upload ever. Goes from start in Normal (then rev in Normal), then to Quiet with revving, then to Track. You can also really hear the clicks of the valves.

That's on "Track" mode (which is how I drive the car most often).

Here's what it sounds like inside the car (all windows up - phone sitting in the back seat) when accelerating (again, with AE on Track):

Yeah, I'm right there with you. "My mode" is configured for normal steering and track exhaust, drive it like that 90% of the time unless in early am/late pm when the Quiet schedule is set.

You need to make your video "Public" on Youtube - we can't see it.

The differences between Sport and Track are definitely small... but there are differences. Track is just a bit "throatier"... with a bit more low end. Hard to make it come across in a video - but can be heard when in the car and accelerating.

I have my car start up in Quiet (awesome feature)... then once I roll out of the neighborhood I use the toggle switch to Sport+ and (most of the time) use the dashboard menu to switch to Track exhaust.

I love my analog gauges... but the fact that you only get "My Mode" with the digital dash is a bummer. I would love to dial up a "My Mode" that is Sport+, Sport Steering, and Track Exhaust"...

Active exhaust all the way.

As my car is a fair weather weekend toy, I can count on one hand the times I've even had the tunes on. It's not what I bought the car for, and I would have ordered it radio delete if I could have.

You make a good point. I was in the audio industry for many years. I was selling 6 figure audio systems back before VHS video even came out. The was "high end" audio.
You were selling $100,000 systems in 1976? How big a market was there for systems that cost the equivalent of $450,000 in today's dollars back then, exclusive of studios? For that matter, how big a market is there for that now?

I'll answer the second question first. Huge! Absolute Sound along with Stereophile were the two preeminent publications when I worked in what was the first super esoteric hifi store in the US. They are still around today. Checkout the prices of some of the best gear. It will blow your mind.

As far as when I worked at this New York dealer back in 79/80 we sold Mark Levinson, Audio Research, Magnaplanar, Revox, Linn Sondek, and a host of brands that most people in those days never heard of. Back then, McIntosh was considered middle of the road. We also had a cabinet maker on staff to build customer wall units and subwoofer boxes that utilized KEF speakers. With custom woodworking and installation fee's hitting 6 figures didn't actually happen all that often but it could and did for some of our best well heeled customers. And by the way we didn't sell video back in those days because it really had not become mainstream. Betamax had first come out and VHS wasn't around yet. We did sell a few 3/4" U-Matic machines for those looking for porn though :giggle:

There, did that, it's set to "public" now. For a 28yo that loves technology that's really embarrassing. :D

Yeah, you can only mess with steering and exhaust setup in the digital dash and then save it as "My mode." You can't change suspension (even with MagneRide). I think you can't even change Sport+ steering feel, those are fairly locked in.

By the way hear is a nice record player ensemble for only $41,000, the price of a base Mustang GT.

Turntable $15,000
Pre-Amp $14,000
Phono Cartridge $12,000

By the way, I knew the late, great Joe Grado back in the day. I think his most expensive cartridge back the way $500.00.

By the way, the Bullitt does have a specially tuned exhaust. Listen to yours vs. a regular GT. It sounds throatier.
