Looking at installing a Paxton SC. I know its a good idea to install a billet OPG for motor longevity. I'm not someone who pushes their car to the limit or ever races/ goes to the dragstrip. Is it as necessary to do the OPG for the occasional garage queen type car? Thanks!!

It's not hard to replace and eliminates a common failure point.

I'd spend the coin, put in a more robust OPG and have peace of mind from here on out.

ATI balancer & ARP bolt would be a good idea as well, if you do the work yourself total cost would be around 1000.00 give or take with new fluids. Better to spend that than risk blowing the engine which would be minimum 6K.

Are the timing sprockets known to fail?

They crack at the keyway it's very thin in that area, it's really a no brainer as you must remove the crank gear to get the oil pump off so why not change it when you are right there.

10-4. I was looking at it as more of a cost..to value relationship. I will never being going supercharged, so I was curious if that was still a weak point, even with an NA car.

I think it is the coyote stock class with the sealed motors which are NA they are changing the OPG not sure about the crank gear though. Being NA you might get away with it but you will probably want to turn a higher RPM so I would replace both for the piece of mind, I mean 250.00 in the big picture isn't going to make or break you.

I had the FRPP/Roush blower installed on my '15 and when I asked the shop about the OPG, they basically said they'd be glad to take my money but had never seen one fail on a street car.....so I chose to pay for the overall drivetrain warranty offered by Roush that covers the OPG....among other things. I might regret it one day, but it won't be the first time I second-guessed myself.
My point is everyone has an opinion and the best thing to do is go with your gut.

I think there was a poll asking who have had OPG failure. The failure rate was pretty low. It really comes down to being an insurance policy. Is the cost and time worth the risk or not. For some it might be and some it might not, and a few have regretted their choice ;).

Considering the thousand bucks it costs to do it (really less if you DIY) assures you that the motor is solid, it's worth it. Where else will get you get a 700hp strong shortblock for a grand?

If you have the expendable income to do the blower you have it to do the OPG/CS. Few people need the backup shoot jumping out of a plane but would you do it?
