Opg install, Whats all required?

So you guys did use a 5 ton pulley puller? AutoZone has this one for rental:

Looks to be the same as the one in your pictures above, do you guys think this one will work?

Also, what's this talk of the wipers? What wipers are you guys referring to?


Just trying to do all my homework before this install. Hearing of all these little things that need to be done makes me want to just get this over with, haha.

all this little crap is a pain in the arse.... cowl extension, wipers, battery boxes, and that flipping 7mm bolt on the fascia that took 30 minutes just to find it....WHAT THE HELL LOL!!! now girlfriend bitchin bout doing something this weekend and i want to finish this

I didn't take the K brace or battery cover out. The only reason for that it to get at the last cam cover bolt in the back towards the bottom and if your patient you can get it out without taking all that stuff off

Looks like that puller will work. And as stated above I didn't take the K brace, wipers or cal cover off. It does give better access to the pass side cam cover, but I was able to remove it without doing all that.

Yep I used the 5 ton pulled from Pep Boys. I think it was the same as the one from autozone going by the pictures they had at the counter, but they didn't have theirs, so I got it at pep boys. I tried and tried to get it in there as assembled, but ended up taking those links off and set them aside, and attached the hooks directly to the black main bracket. That was the only way I could get it to fit inside the pulley. Came out without any issue.

The windshield wipers. In order to get the k-brace off, it's easier to remove plastic cowl cover, which then requires you to remove windshield wipers. You remove the cap and nut, but wiper will not just pop off. They're press fit onto the shaft. If you use a little small puller they pop right off.

As some others have said, there is no reason to remove those items. I left the wipers, cowl cover and k brace on. I did remove the battery cover as that made things easier for that back let side.

Yeah, I guess you don't need to remove the k brace, but I was trying to get the battery heat shield out and couldn't seem to move it with the k brace in place, so I was like f'it. And just started removing everything.

lol, i kinda followed the same path. Now that I see why they instructed to take off, I would leave on if I ever had to do again

The K brace is no big deal to remove all you have to do is pull out the 4 plastic push pins on the cowl then just lift it up slightly and get your ratcheting wrench in there and remove the bolts. There is no need to remove the wiper arms much easier to access the valve covers with the battery tray and K brace removed imo.

When I did it I just pulled the belt in the direction of off the pulley and turned the crank with the other hand using a cheater bar. Didn't seem very difficult.

Did the opposite on the installation. Walked the belt on to the pulley by pushing the belt towards the pulley while turning the crank. Constant pressure and crank turns walked the pulley on and off without too much effort.

X2, wasn't super easy for me, I'm just starting to get old enough that my hand strength isn't what it's supposed to be. But I just gave it my all and pulled close to the just before the ac pulley and slowly walked it off the ac pulley in baby steps turning the crank clockwise. Also helped to put something some gloves on so I could pull harder with my fingers.

ended up wrapping a strap around the belt - better leverage, walked counter clockwise and pulled from the top, started moving off after firs crank - took maybe a minute, after fighting with it for over an hour last night, and another hour trying to find information on the internet of how to do it. Sheesh
