Ongoing maintenance costs

Hey guys, I have. 2017 mustangs GT and so far everything is great with the car.
I wanted to hear how cheap or expensive ongoing maintenance is with these cars. I’m not talking about servicing. I wanted to know how much it costs to replace the clutch, brake pads/rotors, suspension parts etc as these cars get older. I know they will be considerably more than say a fiesta but I wondered by how much?

If you want OEM parts ship them from the US and don't pay rip off Britain prices. The only non consumable parts I've had issues with are window motors, A/C door actuators and the puddle lights. The door actuators were £80 from Ford UK or about £20 from the US. I'm still running on the same disks and pads from new and suspension I've never replaced but have upgraded twice. I had the Ford track pack then swapped to Pedders.

Great thanks. I thought Ford UK dealerships would have had lots of OEM parts for the Mustang at good prices by now. Is there anywhere in particular that you buy your genuine parts from? I would have thought postage would be high

You can buy cheap OEM Ford parts from multiple different US, 3rd party companies and they stock parts for decades. Here we have Ford UK and they sell the parts for 3 or 4 times the price of the US. To stop you buying from the US, the UK uses different part numbers for the same parts. There is postage and taxes involved but if you do it properly you can easily save money. Even US suppliers with UK websites mark up the prices 25-50%. For example buying the GT350 brake kit from the US instead of Steeda UK will save you a £1k. All you need is the US part number and Google and they'll be tons of websites to buy from such as tascaparts.com, fordpartsgiant.com, parts.lakelandford.com, levittownfordparts.com etc. Even websites such as americanmuscle.com, cjponyparts.com, lmr.com and summitracing.com sell some OEM parts. The only time you have to buy from Ford UK is when the part is RHD specific like the dash or the battery cover but even then you could look to Australia but shipping is even more than the US.

Other manufacturers have been doing this for years. For example Lamborghini and Porsche using VW parts and selling them for massively inflated prices. If you use the VW part not the inflated Porsche or Lamborghini part it voids the warranty.

Fantastic cheers for the advice and suggestions. I can imagine when it’s time to change the clutch or similar the cost will be beyond 1k if I were to go with Ford UK. At present I have Ford Protects extended warranty which is about £40 per month so not to bad should I get something like an engine leak or transmission problems. Generally nothing wear and tear

Ford have a lifetime rust guarantee too but good luck claiming on it.

A friend works in a local Ford dealer, he reckoned when they have a Mustang in for a brake job using genuine parts it rarely costs less than £1k and if it has Brembo's it can be closer to £1300.

Yeah in time these cars will have costly repairs if one decides to hold onto them for life and use them regularly

As said above buy from the states and get fitted by your trusted garage it is far cheaper.

Ford have a lifetime rust guarantee too but good luck claiming on it.
Ford Protect is worth it. I’ve had actuators and one or two other AC related components changed in the past which combined near enough cost £2000 and they paid no quibbles. They even retrospectively paid me for something which they didn’t cover initially according to their Ts and Cs, and then the next year revised their cover and I called them up querying it and they paid me. The main reason I took it out was in case the dreaded AC failed.

Maybe true but after 30k miles mine were still as good as new so they last a LONG time!

They are generally cheap to keep considering what they are but a 2017 car is 8 years old now so things will start to creep in with time. An 8 year old Maserati or Ferrari would make you weep in repairs!

Had my '17 Gt for getting on 7 years now. Living out in the sticks and not having the trust of local garages i do all work myself past the warranty. Only 'non standard mod' was fitting a mocal oil cooler as a preventative measure. She's done 28k miles so when clutch time comes ill need to take it to a mustang specialist as all the work on it is done on my driveway lol.
Well done. I’m out in the sticks too and have the same year and mileage. The car is so far bullet proof other than a few small ac related issues which weren’t related to the dreaded evaporator. I need to get a repair manual to do any major works. I do small jobs myself. I hate taking it to dealerships and go over it in detail whenever I pick it up. Absolutely don’t trust them.
