Yeah, I would say at 3,000 miles, 1 quart per 1,000 miles, does seem to be quite a lot. My 99' Chevy Suburban 5.7L burns about the same as that, but it's an older (90's) push rod Chevy with 200,00 miles, and 100,000 miles on the reman engine.

Checked oil again after last 300 miles and Iā€™m down another half quart. So at this rate, Iā€™ll complete an oil change every 6,000 miles by just adding new oil if it doesnā€™t get any worse.

Iā€™ll need to take it in sooner than later now. Tick is getting louder as oil is going down, but hey, tick is normal.

^^^ Definately something isn't right when oil consumption is that high and the engine is making worse noises. Recommend also cutting open the oil filter with a filter cutter or tin snips (so you don't contaminated the filter) and see what's been caught in the filter media.

pulled out a couple ounces today. Looks a lot darker in a clear glass jar, and clear tubing. This is at 2950 miles since I took it off the lot, and 3 quarts burned, stolen, disappeared.

Two updates.

Dealer topped off oil and said they cannot start an oil tracking until I get first oil change. Tech also stated ā€œnormal for these engines to burn up to a quart every 500 milesā€. Service manager said he disagreed, and could only offer to start oil usage log after first oil change.

Second update. Sent a sample to black stone (pulled before dealer top off). TBN test and it was still strong at 5.6 on factory filled oil (plus 2 qts of topped up). Results below.

Not sure thereā€™s much else to do other than get an oil change in about 1,000 miles and see where it goes from there.

Still wondering if the car was delivered with less than 10 quarts.

That Tech doesn't know jack, a quart every 500 miles is not "normal".

I have to put a quart of oil in my Suburban 5.7L every 1,000 miles. Of course it hase over 100,000 miles on it.

My 2018 GT used less than 1/2 qt of oil in 6,600 miles. So, I would say that 1 qt of oil in less than 1,000mi is NOT normal for a newer engine that is broken in.

Thatā€™s a bit much, but donā€™t get too alarmed yet. Give it 5-10 k and donā€™t be afraid to use the accelerator. On my 2016, the oil consumption was about 1 qt / 3k miles, and this dropped steadily over time. Gas mileage shot up and oil consumption was gone by 20k.

My 2019 with 8k uses about a quart every 3 k, and I expect it to be the same. If no smoke and good power, drive the hell out of it.

The molybdenum in your oil is from the rings and normal. My guess is the same as what was suggested above, is that itā€™s sucking oil and burning it somehow. Oil separator is a good idea.

Iā€™ve heard enough...

That block is shit so get another. Not the first time with a 2018.

My lowly V6 is at 7500 miles from the last oil change and no - absolutely no oil consumption. This is bad, but there is no need to check the dipstick on this car anymore. 37,000kms and two years and never added oil ever. That is an ordinary engine.

You guys have been acclimatized to a shit block deliberately made loose to keep it from blowing up at high revs when cold. This is a design fault and with sales of the Coyote as it is - I donā€™t see a fix ever coming. If itā€™s tolerable you live with it, and if not you replace the short block. Thatā€™s the reality of the situation...

Whatā€™s that?

Twenty quarts between oil changes? But there is a silver lining! This way you donā€™t ever drain the oil, just change the filter every 5,000 miles.

I say 5,000 as Iā€™m sure there are metal bits (aluminium) in your future. Drive around town in your new GT with 4 quart jugs of oil stowed in the back like a 23 year old clapped out shit box! Itā€™s totally normal - yeh right! Ford engineering at its finest - but I digress.

New engine in your future.

Leave it at the dealer and start the lemon law thing you guys have if it goes past a month. Then make the hard decision or buy something else.

Oh.

And lest someone try to disagree with me. My previous car was a 23 year old car with a 5 litre jug of oil visible at the back. That is how I know... :like:
