These seem to be the two most consistent failures of this otherwise fantastic car. Do either of these gremlins give you concern or do you just keep your fingers crossed? It sounds like there should be a recall for these two items.

There have been actually very few oil pump gear failures and those mainly seemed to be from revving to high while the car was cold.

AC seems more common.

I'm not that concerned

2017 GT350 now gone to a great home.
That’s why you have a warranty. You will never enjoy your car if you worry about things breaking down. Recalls that don’t involve safety related components take awhile to mature after several reported incidences and complaints.

I just became a member of the AC failure club. It's not a huge deal, just have to put up this Ford Escape loaner. LOL Other than that, I drive this car hard every day and she's good to me for a 10K old gal.

At 5600 miles in my AC is so far functioning normally. Engine is amazing as it has always been. The only thing I’ve noticed is since my last oil change about 250 miles ago that oil temps are higher than they have been by about 10-15 degrees on the same commute route I take daily. Still well within the normal range but it’s curious why temps are higher than they have ever gone prior under same conditions. Just one thing I will keep my eye on. With every failure that gets talked about it makes me very glad I took the time extended warranty.

I haven't heard of any proven OPG failures, but on the other hand, I did experience the AC failure first hand.

My OPG just failed and I never rev high until the engine oil temp is showing 180 or higher. Take that for what it’s worth.

Did they actually confirm the fact that it was your OPG?

I can't think of a single instance where anyone has gotten confirmation of an OPG failure. You turn it over to Ford and they don't tell you anything except that the motor was replaced.

I sure wish we could view some of those internal reports

I agree 100% with this. While I have seen photos of a broken oil pump gear, its hard to confirm if it was the cause, or if it is a result of something else. I understand the OPG is the "achilles heel" of the coyote, as represented on forums/magazines/FB groups etc.... but some food for thought:

Boss 302R race cars used production Boss 302 oil pump

Copy and paste from Boss302R owners manual:
Engine: M-6007-M50BR
The engine is a production Boss 302 engine with the exception of the oil pan and engine harness, all service
information and parts pertaining to a production Boss 302 engine applies

Roush stage 3 supercharged mustangs use production oil pump.
GT350 oil pump part number is unchanged since 2015. Usually if there is something that is a frequent source of failure the part is modified/upgraded and has a supercession.

I really hope in the coming years we do find out for certain what the cause of engine failures have been.

I like to disassemble things.
I know of a GT350 owner in northern California that suffered an OPG failure. He tracked the car fairly frequently and maintained it extremely well. He asked me not to share the photos so I won't but I can say that the gear shattered into a number of smaller pieces. I think it took Ford a little time but they covered it under warranty and replaced the engine with a new assembly. He subsequently sold the car.

Hi guys. I thought I would share with you what I have learned from working on my 2016 GT 350. I changed my oil filter housing to the canister type and while I had the parts off of the front of the engine I read about a few more failures on this site. I decided to change the oil pump gears too. I know it's been said that you can't get the oil pump off of the crank without separating the engine from the k member but that is not true, there is enough room just by dropping the oil pan. The biggest concern I had was being very careful not to damage the oil pan gasket and getting it sealed back up afterwards. Here is a picture with the pan dropped and front cover off so you can see the pickup tube does come out of pump to allow the pump too be pulled off of the crankshaft.

A single documented case.

I'm not saying the problem isn't there, but I wouldn't touch it unless it's out of warranty
