Okay guys- itās been a while since parts were not available for monthsā¦now Iām getting back at it and installing cam capsā¦been too long so I forgot- are the numbers upside down when installed? If so, then I stored properly..
Thanks- ran 40k. Following the tapping sound openend it up and noticed scoring/scratches on the camshafts and caps (not the journals). Also some lifters were soft..looks like no bent or burnt valves, some carbon buildup but believe thatās not weird. Heads look very clean, but did find some...
Seems like I need a new head then..anyone know where I can find a ready-to-go head instead of all these āsemi-finishedā ones (whatever that may mean)?
Theyāre similar to the ones in the video you posted, so already primed a few last night, thanks for sharing. Happy to share pictures later if you want
Ok so- scorching on exhaust camshaft and scratches (can feel with nail) on journal- all exhaust lash adjusters soft, intake side adjusters firmā¦potential damage material in the lash adjuster galleryā¦
question now is- how can I clean/unclog the gallery without damaging or pushing debris further...
Yes thank you- was thinking about this, but itās just weird that several lifters on the passenger side are soft whereas all of ām on the driver side are firm. Iām thinking perhaps some oil blockage or flow restriction on the passenger side? Not sure how thatās possible though..
No- they all look great..canāt imagine I did something different on the driver side when I replaced the lash adjusters last than on the passenger sideā¦
Alright so- some updates. Everything looks perfectly fine really. However, on the passenger side (where the tapping sound comes from) I can easily depress several lash adjusters by pushing on the rocker with my finger. On the driver side none of them move, theyāre very stiff.
I replaced all...
In the process of pulling it apart- but with the passenger valve cover off it appears the secondary tensioner does its job..timing cover off the coming days. Will report
could it also be something ādeeperā- the rattle cant be valves, right?
This was exactly my experience, the new secondary tensioners from the kit were shorter, same as in your picture. They would engage/click properly in the bracket though. However, the passenger side one didnt āpopā when activated like the driver side, so hoping it is ājustā that and Iāll just have...
Will be going at it with a stethoscope tomorrow. Used ford performance kit M-6004-A5015B that states 5.0 but dealer told me itās a fit after giving him my VIN- but now Iām thinkingā¦.
yeah sry for not being clear- The car sat for about a year so I cannot recall how loud the engine is (including me taking months replacing timing chains/vct etc), but before starting I primed the engine properly and did the crank/pressure buildup trick- so itās well lubricated and primed before...
Hey folks- I changed timing chains, tensioners, guides, cam phasers, lash adjusters, roller fingers - the whole thing. Took my time, by the book, buttoned everything up correctly, oil pressurized through the oil sensor hole and it fired up perfectly, no CEL. One of the cam phasers failed, so I...
Makes sense- I removed all timing parts, chains, phasers and put LH and RH properly in neutral, so see no reason that I cannot just go ahead and remove RH cams after LH- unless Iām missing something..so kinda reluctant..
Hello- Iām doing lash adjusters/roller followers and reinstalling LH cams, but only now I see in the workshop manual that if both sides are being done, you have to start with RH sideā¦any reason why? Or can I still do RH now after LH being done?
Thanks
Great stuff guys, thanks- was hoping to do this without hoisting the engine..which hoisting points did you use @TRDFurgesson & @JohnVallo ? And assuming first put timing cover back on before applying rtv and reinstalling oil pan? Thanks again
