Has anyone used an oil filter magnet, if so what kind? My upr oil plug has a magnet but I think a filter magnet like the FilterMag sold on amazon look to be stronger and may pick up more particles. I currently run an amsoil filter and 100% synth amsoil 5w30. I have seen some debris on my upr magnet plug.

10k miles 3rd oil change coming up next weekend. I track the car so I change it after track days.

wouldn't anything in the filter be caught by the filter medium?

I am pretty sure that all the metal particles are not filtered by the filter medium. I have been using amsoil filter that has 20 microns at 99% written on the box. Those numbers are under specific testing parameters that do not match all circumstances. I do not see the harm in a filter magnet, it's a low cost piece of mind.

I found this video review of filtermag. I know in bigger industrial machines and aircraft systems magnets are used to filter.

I do this on all my cars, just a rare earth magnet stuck to the side of the filter. Can't hurt, no idea if it helps.

Meh, By the time you see enough metal that stick because of a magnet, it is too late.
Most of the wear parts are not magnetic, bearing material,
guides, seats, etc.

Sure it might catch the crap left over from production, at the first change, but if a cam lobe or lobe follower is going or a ring, etc by the time you see it in a magnet collection, it's over.
Can't hurt catching any crap left from production, but if you think it save your butt if a part starts going south, forgetaboutit.
