Pull the dipstick out and wipe it off, then insert all the way in with the hash marks facing toward the motor. Having the marks on that side when you dip it seems to be the only way for me to get a reading.

Agreed that is the best way. Hashmarks facing the passenger side of the car. Also checking it cold after sitting overnight just pull it out don't wipe and have a look at it as it sits is pretty good too. Then wipe and recheck to confirm.

If oil is down in the pan, and you have good light, the dipstick is either "wet" or it aint.

When oil is new, it's a PITA to get a good reading indeed. I try both ways, but will check how I left it, and put the hash marks toward the engine side, to do it the forum way. Ha ha.

you would think with all the advance techology we have and it get more and more difficult to check the oil in our mustang. another thing I hate is checking the A10 transmission fluid. what the hell is for thinking.

Ironically, it's precisely the advance in technology that makes it difficult to read the dipstick. Modern engines are built to much tighter tolerances, and modern synthetic oils do a much better job than their ancestors did. You can drive for thousands of miles and still have a thin, transparent oil in your engine.
Twenty years ago my oil used to be black after six hundred miles - perfectly easy to read on any kind of dipstick, even with one eye closed. 😁

Out of curiosity, does anybody know how much oil it takes to get from the minimum mark to the maximum in the 3rd generation Coyote? How much oil does half an inch on the dipstick mean?

The other cars also use the same "modern synthetic oil".
I see no way around the Mustang dip stick being hard to read. Other cars, it's wipe the dip stick, reinsert, take out, read. Mustang is the only one I have to check, double check, and often triple check.

Advance in technology should have given us an oil level monitor displayable from within the car, like the fuel level is. Unlike the fuel level, no need to always display it, but with the digital dash now available it could be shown when desired, like the TPMS/tire pressure.

Yes, and they have the same problem that we do. If you do a quick search on the internet you'll find this issue discussed in various other forums, for various other brands. It's not a Mustang thing. It's not even a Ford thing.

my other daily cars over the years 2007, 2016 honda accord, 2018 civic, and 2006, 2011 minivan and I always never had problem reading the oil dip stick on any one of them. plus their location of the dip stick is very easy to get to.

btw, my 1998 mustang gt oil dip stick is very easy to get to and read also.

while at it, I heard ford and chevy team up to design the A10, but who idea putting the dip stick to check the A10 right there by the damn cat? why we do have to check with the hot af engine running? can't they design to check it cold and move the damn dip stick to where it is easily assessible.

That tends to be the case with transversally mounted engines. The Coyote isn't that bad either after you remove the sound tube. I've removed mine, and now using the disptick is a breeze (except reading it, that's a different story 😁).

That is not my experience. Had four other cars over the last 5-6 years. Mitsubishi x 2, Toyota, Audi. No problem there.
