Good plan, thats about it, however, you should seriously consider a Thermostat as your oil may never warm up? Non thermostat systems are fine for race cars, but on the road where you're probably not on the redline all the time, your oil will take an age to even get warm.

I'm not sure if i am correct in saying this.. but does the water/oil cooler help with heating the oil up quicker as the water heats up so fast in comparison to the oil?
Yeah oil/water heats the oil faster than air/oil so no need for thermostat if you go this route. If I go air/oil then I will use a thermostat for sure

With a thermostat (for the uk) . A bit of water pipe joiner. And the engine mount spacer. Then the buyer can choose their own oil cooler off demon tweeks.
That is a bargain!! If only it had a thermostatic filter housing? You could always add a remote thermostat but that would mean using two more fittings plus the cost of the thermostat itself. I also wonder what hose and fittings are supplied as 6 feet of top quality hose and 4 fittings would cost more than this kit over here!! I just checked Merlin Motorsport and 6 feet of hose, 4 adapters, 2 straight -10 fittings and 2 45° -10 fittings came to £245. Thats all Goodridge 200 series.

That Canyon one looks cool. It’s $95 though so will be over £100 when it gets here. I’m going to make my own I think. Putting the trappings in for switches etc will not be an issue, or you can buy filter mounts with toppings in them too.

I’m pretty sure that switch is for the oil light as we don’t have pressure senders on our cars afaik?

Your car build date is april 2017. You should not be affected by the oil cooler issue.
2018 mustang gt rhd have the same oil cooler and at the same location I am sure if position was the problem Ford would have addressed it in 2018 model but thats not the case.. same cooler same location same part number.

Just enjoy your car dont worry about it. There are tens of thousands of mustang rhd sold in Aus and UK and other market majority have no problems.
I suggest you stick with the engine oil requirements 5W-30 WSSM2C913D (thinner 5w-30).
I am guessing thicker oil will create a lot more oil pressure and god knows what will happen to the cooler internally if you drive it hard.

Engineering a solution means if you rupture one of the line or one came loose and oil was dumped on the road then you have no warranty. Remember these are tested at the factory.
By putting a sandwich plate and routing it to the front of the car means you are risking leaks from any of the hoses as oppose current solution with only coolant line to the cooler itself.

You make a valid point about the number of cars on the road versus the relatively small number of cooler failures, however watching the various Facebook groups there seems to have been more failures from cars built in 2017 of late. Inconsistent with dates Ford provided for affected vehicles.

You make a valid point about the number of cars on the road versus the relatively small number of cooler failures, however watching the various Facebook groups there seems to have been more failures from cars built in 2017 of late. Inconsistent with dates Ford provided for affected vehicles.
The problem is the car might be built in 2017 but fitted with a defective cooler made in mid 2016.
You can see the built date by looking at the cooler ifself.
I just don't believe ford will sell tens of thousands of time bombs to the market. The brand damage will be too great.

A tuner will say this and that but they always insert the sentence ''in my opinion' this is what caused the issue.
Well a tuner can twist anything to sell you their parts and services.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I am the OP. I stated in my opening page that I probably don’t “need” to change my cooler, but I want to. I don’t like the idea of water and oil in the same fabricated housing so I don’t have to have it that way.

I want an air/oil cooler so that’s what I’m gonna do. And as for not worrying and just driving the car and letting the warranty cover it, well, if you had the level of competence I’ve had from my local dealer you wouldn’t say such things. I wouldn’t trust them to fit a tyre, let alone mess with my engine!!

When you say the same on the 18s, do you mean the MY18s?

Yeah the oil cooler part number on the my18 is identical to the my17 and therefore
The my16 before it.

I’d be up for purchasing some sort of bolt on kit if it was available in the U.K at a reasonable price + not having to import it.

Just for peace of mind.

I heard the part number for the 2018 oil cooler is the same, so it's either the same part or hasn't been modified enough to warrant a new part number.

I'm not a fan of the mmr oil cooler, it looks too cheap

Its the exact same part just different build date. I have seen 18 GT with 17 build date for the oil cooler. It is the exact same one.
It is hard to see with naked eyes when you are underneath the car. My advise is to take a photo with your smartphone you can see the build date clearly once you took a pic and zoom in on it.
