Do any of you know how a non-factory oil cooler might affect existing insurance policies?
I'm guessing most insurers would consider a third party cooler a performance modification and thus use any non-disclosed 'modification' as a loop-hole for denying a claim.
It shouldn’t do.Best way around that is to declare it & discuss with your insurer,

No problem, just have it added to your policy as a modification, which you absolutely should do because you'll have another $1500 or so added to the loss should it go up in flames/get stolen. They won't deny a claim anyway, think of how many cars are getting around with non-standard wheels, brake pads, rotors, exhausts, no name under inflated tyres etc. and are still covered.

It won't affect your insurance policy at all. The vehicle is not being outwardly modified, and the cooler is not affecting performance nor handling.

If your insurer allows you to list modifications, you could add to the listing if you feel the need. Doubtful you would get a greater insurance amount on the vehiclehowever.

Had the Harrop Kit installed early today. .So far so good, in my 20 mins of driving compared to stock oil cooler, noticed the ECT was consistently about 2C or more colder and the Cylinder head temps dropped temps much quicker than before, but I have a Lund tune which basically sets the fan speed to near 100% all the time so your results may vary and I may be talking out of my ass.

Speaking of insurance, I'm with Shannons and added the oil cooler into the policy and it did raise my monthly premiums or whatever. I was paying about $92 a month and it's gone up to $100. Funny, because I installed a catback exhaust earlier this year and it didn't go up at all but the oil cooler made it go up.

Probably because some dork at Shannons thinks that only tracked cars have aftermarket oil coolers. That seems an absurd hike for fitting an oil cooler, did they say that was definitely the reason?

So I have just hit 95000km in my 2016 with warranty about to expire. Should be safe now from oil cooler disaster no?

Absolutely no way of knowing for sure. Some cars that shouldn't fail have, and some that are nominally high risk ie within the suspect manufacturing run, haven't.

Ford still won't come clean about the cause and there appears to be no sign when failure is imminent.

It's a dilemma between handing over $1500 for a cooler to fix an inherent problem about which Ford should be more transparent and provide guarantees, or just hoping it doesn't fail but AFAIK there are no test cases where a cooler failed outside warranty.

If you're going to keep the car the amortised cost is minimal and you get some piece of mind, it's just rubbish to have to do it in the first place.

Do you have 4 years warranty?

My warranty was only 3 years and I have had the air con replace twice, the second time 9 months out of warranty. The oil cooler problem worries me as well.

Not sure. It's possible that he did.
I waited for mine(I live to far away) just took coffee & something to eat with me.Ducked into the workshop to have a look @ progress. They were originally in Fyshwick in the seventies(not same owners of course) they were Alfa specialists.I had a Twin Cam Escort with a crook head @ the time.Just really good to deal with.
