Yes, I'd also be interested in knowing if anyone here doing an oil change, has a fuel smell to the oil.

There isn't enough zinc in Rotella T6 to damage a factory cat, this has been tested on many other forums. Rotella T6 isn't new magic, it has been on the market for YEARS. It has been used for so long that forums are removing discussion about Rotella T6 because they are old and they need more space! LOL.

The comment they made is to only cover their ass, for people that have had experience with it (like myself, for about 8 years now) are the ones that should be heard.

5% Zinc, which is much less than oils that have been proven to damage the factory cat (Amsoil).

Contrary to what is recommended, I much rather stay with the stock weight oil.

Great info, thanks as usual Adam.

I changed my factory fill at 1000 miles and didn't really notice any. I'll be sending in my oil for analysis at 3 or 4000 miles on this fill to see if the Pennzoil ultra platinum is holding up.

Anyone curious about the Pennzoil, this covers it. [ame]

Not bashing any other oil including the Rotella (Shell owns Pennzoil after all) just saying it's what I use.

More information about Pennzoil GTL base oils...

http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/pennzoil-q-a/

Here's an excerpt that I find particularly interesting:

8. It is widely known that the use of GTL base oil can result in lubricant formulations with exceptionally low NOACK volatility. What are the benefits of low NOACK volatility with respect to motor oil??

Lower volatility means less oil consumption inside your engine. Low volatility is also a key factor in enabling an oil to stay fresher for longer throughout the oil drain. Oil loss through volatilization of light ends can cause contaminants, for example from blow-by gases, to concentrate in the oil. These contaminants can accelerate oil ageing and additive depletion. Low volatility helps to maintain viscosity control and is also helpful from protecting the oil from degradation caused by the very high temperatures that can be encountered in turbocharger bearings. Such degradation can cause the build-up of significant deposits in turbochargers.

Low NOACK volatility is the main reason I run the Pennzoil Platinum family of GTL base oils in my EcoBoost, especially considering the known issues with blow-by gases contributing to intake valve deposits in DI engines. Only time will tell if my choice is worthwhile.

For anyone looking for the WIX filters, WIX actually manufactures filters for NAPA Auto Parts. The WIX filter part # 51348 is the NAPA Gold Filter # 1348. For me at least, this made it much easier to find locally.

Regarding the oil, I've decided to return the Rotella and go with the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum after reading the comments here. I just don't want to have that as a reason to void the warranty although I believe it would have been a good oil also.

Finally got mine changed, due family things going on I had to take it to local place to put the Rotella T6 in. They came out and were really confused why I wanted diesel truck oil in my car. I said because I feel like it haha, they still managed to over fill my oil after I drew a line on the bottle, I hate not being able to do my own stuff.

Lots on info on here. I have a Ecostang with 700 miles on it and am wondering if I should swap out the Rotella now as its my play car and will see drag and track time. Also I have a VW Golf TDI and wondering if I should start putting this oil in my Diesel?

If you're gonna be tracking or dragging the car, I'd definitely get the factory oil out.

For those that are timid about using diesel oil, I'd highly recommend the (German) Castrol 0w-30. It's on the heavier side of a 30 weight and is actually right at being a 40. Although it's somewhat pricey, I don't think you'd find a better gas oil. It has it's own sub-forum on BITOG, so that says a lot.

How much oil did you guys end up putting in with the filter change? I put in 5.7 quarts and it is just above the fill level on the dipstick.

I started it, ran for about 20 seconds then shut it off, let it set for a few minutes and checked it.

I just checked it again and it has settled to midway between the add and full.

I know what you mean. I'm thinking maybe I should just put 6 quarts in and make it easy?
