No disrespect, however, trusting anything the API or ACC require to be certified to a grade like GF-5 is ludicrous. These are PAC foundation lobbyist buying out politicians for favorable deals, selling the consumer a false and fake sense of security. It's really just protectionism or strong arm tactics. The issue I see with this discussion is that the recommended Motorcraft oil (5W-30) is a GF-5 oil. Amazon sells it for 12.60 a quart! Ouch.
Anyway, Mobil 1 5W-30 is GF-5 certified but Shell T6 5W-40 is NOT (this is for diesel engines). I know that some are saying they have used it with good results on other cars but putting a non-GF-5 oil in the Ecoboost when Ford specifically recommends it seems like a lot bigger issue than what oil filter one chooses. Just say'n. Be careful!
Nothing but GF-5 oil for gasoline engines will be going in my car.
It really falls to this point, everyone here is modifying their power plants to exceed the manufacture recommended and preset parameters. This will create stress causing higher engine temps. Thus needing a slightly higher weight oil to combat "oil sheer", especially in turbo charged motors where heat is a concern.
