Hello,
I own a 2017 that has roughly 9k miles. Right after I changed the oil last year the engine developed an aggressive "ticking" sound after it was at operating temps and between idle an roughly 1.5 RPM. It was sometimes worse than other times. Oddly enough, if I would really run the car to read line a couple of times it would almost go away but would later come back.
A Ford field service rep declared it piston slap, changed the oil and called it good. The car still made the sound and I checked the the oil (from a sample) 400 miles later thinking there had to be damage going on. That analysis came back clean. Since then I have driven the car about 1,100 miles and the sound or its pattern has not changed. It has not consumed any oil and the previous owner told me it never consumed oil when she owned it (spoke with her after I purchased the car).
Last week I took another sample of oil out (after 1,100 miles) thinking there has to be some metal in it with this awful sound going on and this analysis came back pretty clean also. Given the fact that there is really nothing in the sample, could the engineer be correct in that this ticking sound is not harmful to the engine?
Thank you
