I would also like a recommendation from anyone in the Houston, TX area that has had this done.

Affordable Muffler on Dairy Ashford is supposed to be a great shop. I have a friend with a '17 GT350 that said they did a terrific job. I will have mine removed next week and can report back on their quality.

Do they the required stainless steel pipe in stock?

Yes, they either need to have SS pipe or you need to bring it. In my opinion if they don't stock SS pipe, I probably would steer clear. Welding SS not something every shop can/will do.

Not the 2.75", you would need to bring it. They have 2.5" and 3". The 2.5" option is $80 installed.

So is the consensus to leave the heat shields off since the straight pipe won't gather heat like the resonator?

That is what I did. Heat shield went with the resonators.

Are you bringing in your own 2.75" or letting them use the 2.5"? If you are bringing in your own pipe, where did you grab it from?

I'm still back and forth, ford performance released a catback system for the GT350, it's a bit pricey but I'm thinking of grabbing it and not hack up the stock exhaust

I wonder how many of these shops that are welding stainless are also purging the inside of the pipes with Argon. You can make it look pretty on the outside all day long, but without the inside purging the inside of the weld looks like crap and longevity is in serious question. Just had my welding friend weld a couple of practice pieces of stainless without purging and it looks like crap compared to the side exposed to the Argon flow.

Yes, they did a decent job. For $80 I am not complaining. The cuts were perfect, took their time cleaning and prepping the area and the welds are very good. Are they as good as a custom muffler shop I normally use in Dallas, no, but better than most I have seen.

I will probably move to the Borla exhaust at some point, so I was not concerned about them replacing and tacking/clamping the heat shields (they would have) or having the welds smoothed and polished.

The car sounds so much better, best $80 I have spent in years. ;)

Possibly a dumb question but if the X pipe is 2.5 and the resonators are 2.75 along with the rest of the exhaust how do they connect?

There are numerous step downs. The resonators are not 2.75" btw..more like 2.5" with the inlets necking down to 2.25"

I like to disassemble things.

If you were fabricating a set of stainless headers, etc, purging is a good idea. I've done plenty of exhaust work on 304/409 systems with either mig or tig without purging and never had an issue with respect to longevity being in "serious question." Good prep work is important, including ensuring that joints are clean and tight. After that, penetration is key. If you don't use a shielding gas inside the tubing it won't look as good but for a non-structural weld you should be fine.

damn I was really hoping the x pipe exit end was stretched to 2.75. This way deleting would be a simple 2.75 line up cause the place by me has 2.75 409 but not the tool to stretch the ends to fit.
