Hey everyone, I am trying to confirm a few things about the stock/OEM 2019 GT PP2 wheels because I have the option to purchase a tire/wheel protection plan and with forged rims thats a bargain.
1) are they actually forged? I've seen this mentioned in a few magazines but I can't confirm that with a ford publication.
-- Road & Track (search Forged)
-- 95octane (search Forged)
-- this post's price of $1200 for the wheel seems to imply they are forged but I would love to know for a fact
-- I stumbled across the FP PP2 replica rims but these are "Similar to the 2018 Mustang Performance Pack 2 wheel with a unique Ford Performance paint finish" and not forged just based on weight alone
-- and the SVE SP2 Wheels which weigh less than the FP replicas are also not forged but lighter

2) if they are forged, where can replacements be purchased and for how much?

and after stumbling on these ford parts I'm even more confused. Ford has the fronts and rears listed at 35.5 lbs and 36.1 lbs respectively. That would be the heaviest forged rims ever and at $900 a piece the worst value in the history of wheels.

The SVE SP2s are 24.5lbs for the rears and are Flow Formed --not forged for $300 a piece. What am I missing here?

that is because they are not forged - they are cast as is consistent with their price and weight

As the weights indicate they're certainly not forged. You won't even find forged wheels on the base $75k GT500. The reason for the outrageous pricing is because they are OEM. If you're looking for performance and/or value proposition look elsewhere far from anything OEM. As you stated, a much cheaper flow formed wheel will net you a 30% weight reduction at a much lower cost to boot.

Well at $900 that would be consistent with forged rims. Holy crap that’s really outrageous but thank you for clearing this up.

@js19 @Biggus Dickus Can you explain how Ford would sell the "Replicas" at ~$400 and the OEM at $900 when they are the same weights? Seems criminal.

Because Ford overcharges when you buy directly from them. You can get the same OEM wheels much cheaper at most vendors.

Also, you can get replica wheels that weigh 12lbs less each for half the price of the Ford replicas from an aftermarket vendor.

Because they can (?). It is crazy because my NES wheels cost ~$1K per rim

There was an optional Ford PP1 wheel which was forged. That’s about the only OEM ford forged wheel which Im aware of.

Its a bit of an outlier

Yes, the 2021 Ford Mustang configurator has a forged PP1 wheel option approx $800.

Well they aren't selling you 4 additional rims, but there is a lot more $$ difference between 1200-$1600 cast poop and 3600-4000 forgies... Someone needs to smack Ford accounting department around a little bit.

Good forged wheels are expensive. My faves are $1k a piece. Not likely to make it on my car.
