Hi guys....

I need some advise. I am in the market to get a OBD reader that can scan the codes of my cars (Mustang, Explorer and Nissan 350Z). I don't want to buy twice so i prefer a quality equipment and software for a novice that can be updated just in case.

I want it to work with all my cars to read and clear codes but i have never used one so will like your advise on which you recommend to achieve my goals.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks. Can you share which brand or model so i can give it a look?

Also do you know if it is a better approach to get the ones with a display?

OBDLink ones are the best. The generic eBay ones are meh and your can't use forscan with them either and their data logging capability is slow AF.

Grab a OBDLink MX and don't look back.

The eBay ones also can't view any BCM or other modules. The OBDLink Can access them all.

Perfect. Thanks.... Will check them out. Was also seeing the Foxwell NT301 as it has a lot of positive reviews on Amazon.

The MX has a lot of performance features and monitors (primary function) as well as scanning codes. Lots of pids included with the app. What I use to monitor iat2's and boost.

ODBLink MX is one of the only ones compatible with our car's FORD MS CAN and Forscan software which will let you do all sorts of fun little things by editing your car's as-built configuration file and even running procedures like bleeding your ABS module or disabling the horn when you close the car door with the engine running.

I also have another ODB sender which goes the basics and can read codes, but the MX is better if you only want to buy once.

I actually have 3. One is a dedicated, wired device by Inova that's pretty comprehensive as a diagnostic tool for most makes and models. But it's only a reader that will erase codes.
One of the others is an inexpensive bluetooth one that's pretty useless.
My 3rd one is the MX+. It's a lot more versatile but for a lot of stuff I just don't care to always be hooked to a cell/tablet/computer. But I don't fool much with forscan or tuning or track, etc.

All I know is that a bunch of six figure marketing folks sat around a big table and freaking decided that FORSCAN was a great name...
