Not really number 1 now are they :lol:

To be fair, they're show plates, they're made FOR SHOW, not for driving in etc. So will be cheaply made

Good point...so the question is, where do i get genuine ones? All websites seem to do show plates. And brand them as "road legal" all I want is good quality ones. Never thought this thread would go on for so long :lol:

Aluminium plates bought from here http://www.number1plates.com/ and attached using 3 bits of 3M heavy duty velcro tape on the front plate and 2 bits on the rear. Very light weight plates and the front one bends nicely around the angle in the bumper.
Answered already mate and I am very pleased with the quality and these are road legal.

I'd go with Demonplates, actually. Mostly because they seem to have stellar reviews AND they do an "import plate" that's very close to American plate dimensions

American plate: 30.5cm by 15.5cm (12x6)
"Import" plate: 33cm x 15.2cm (12.9x5.9)

You'll have no problems sticking that on your car. :)

For those that are interested...I finally took off those plastic number plate brackets, can I get an :amen:

End result is great, even if I did balls it up along the way...

First thing I would mention is that there were 4 holes drilled into my front bumper, the middle 2 had the screws in & the outer 2 some plastic "stop" screws (not sure what to call them but they were just pushed into the holes rather than screwed).

The holes that has been drilled were done so that the plastic stuck out a few mm. I had to take a bigger drill bit to 'flatten' out the holes. Which was a nervous moment!!! I actually can't remember now if the back was 2 or 4 holes but again I had to drill.

For those that have the plastic brackets - you may want to see how secure the plates are - my front one fell off some months ago due to the cheap double sided tape the dealers must have used and the back one came off with hardly any effort.

Anyway, I washed the car, marked out where I wanted the plates (used masking tape to mark up the centre lines) and put the foam double sided tape in 6 lines across the back of the plate. Here is the balls up part; after carefully placing the plate on the back & holding it in place for a few minutes, I stood up, looked at my handy work & FUUUCK thats the front plate on the back :frusty: let me tell you, that tape is fu*king strong :lol: I had real trouble getting the damn thing off! Anyway I did it & got the back plate on ok.

I went for metal plates so bent the front one over the edge of a table, with a chopping board on top to make sure I got the bend nice & neat.

Anyway, if you have read my crazy number plate ramblings then thank you & I hope this info is useful to someone...here are some photos of the finished job;

Nice and neat now mate. Personally though I would have put your rear plate higher to cover those holes that are there for the American plates, I think the plate shows them off more when it sits below.

Yea i know what you mean, those holes were bigger though and stuck out even more. To flatten them would either leave a fairly big hole or i'd have to take a sander to it which i didnt fancy! Then i thought the plate would sit too high up if i then had to cover those holes. Will no doubt get them seen to one day!

There was no particular brand that I could find, just a generic foam double sided tape from amazon;

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Black-Doubl...&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

Comes in different thicknesses so down to personal preference.

I got the aluminium plates from here http://www.number1plates.com

You have to show them V5C & licence but I just emailed a photo to them. After the last set of "show plates" I got turned out to be naff, I thought I would go for some "official" ones...

Brilliant! - best balls up ever, just the kind of thing I'd do. I didn't even get that far on one attempt as I dropped the alu plate, landed right on the corner and ruined it!

I used 'dual lock' to stick, so easy to adjust if wonky etc. However, this does make the plate sit proud a few mm, and yours look better more flush. Same with the rear, you can stick over the bumps but the trade off is that plate ends up raised against the bumper. Either that or take a chisel to the bumper nipples.
