Brilliant! - best balls up ever, just the kind of thing I'd do. I didn't even get that far on one attempt as I dropped the alu plate, landed right on the corner and ruined it!

I used 'dual lock' to stick, so easy to adjust if wonky etc. However, this does make the plate sit proud a few mm, and yours look better more flush. Same with the rear, you can stick over the bumps but the trade off is that plate ends up raised against the bumper. Either that or take a chisel to the bumper nipples.
"bumper nipples" :lol::lol::lol:

For those that are interested...I finally took off those plastic number plate brackets, can I get an :amen:

End result is great, even if I did balls it up along the way...

First thing I would mention is that there were 4 holes drilled into my front bumper, the middle 2 had the screws in & the outer 2 some plastic "stop" screws (not sure what to call them but they were just pushed into the holes rather than screwed).

The holes that has been drilled were done so that the plastic stuck out a few mm. I had to take a bigger drill bit to 'flatten' out the holes. Which was a nervous moment!!! I actually can't remember now if the back was 2 or 4 holes but again I had to drill.

For those that have the plastic brackets - you may want to see how secure the plates are - my front one fell off some months ago due to the cheap double sided tape the dealers must have used and the back one came off with hardly any effort.

Anyway, I washed the car, marked out where I wanted the plates (used masking tape to mark up the centre lines) and put the foam double sided tape in 6 lines across the back of the plate. Here is the balls up part; after carefully placing the plate on the back & holding it in place for a few minutes, I stood up, looked at my handy work & FUUUCK thats the front plate on the back :frusty: let me tell you, that tape is fu*king strong :lol: I had real trouble getting the damn thing off! Anyway I did it & got the back plate on ok.

I went for metal plates so bent the front one over the edge of a table, with a chopping board on top to make sure I got the bend nice & neat.

Anyway, if you have read my crazy number plate ramblings then thank you & I hope this info is useful to someone...here are some photos of the finished job;
I like what you've done here. Having the front follow the lines/crease of the bumper underneath looks really good.

How are you Guys overcoming the two plastic inserts when fitting flush rear plates, are you cutting them off, or taking the inside trim off and poking the clips back through ?

I just used more sticky pads equal to the height.

Halfords sell 6mm thick double sided foam strips, I used these for mine today and it allows the plate to clear the two mounting points perfectly.

I've got a plate on retention I was thinking of putting on the GT once the novelty of the 18 has worn off

What do you think Y or N

To be honest it should probably say SLO 2 BE ME the way I drive it

Quite amusing plate, but personally I'm not too keen on the 'custom spacing' . I don't want to give insurance company any excuse to weasel out on a claim. I also think an odd looking number plate really draws the eye (to the ugliest part of the front of any car), whereas a normal spaced plate almost goes unnoticed.

I think you're being a bit paranoid there, I doubt the ombudsman would approve withholding payment because the number plate spacing was wrong on a claim

simples - if you like it ... DO IT!

I have a personal plate on my Mustang- It looks good - IMHO (I dont really care what anyone else thinks)

Insurance dont care about number plate spacing - however the police do - I have reverted to correct font and spacing nowadays (been "stopped" too many times!)
