True, noticed that the ones I have on at the moment are metal actually. Can't see why they would be better over plastic though?
Who knows, will update on what my dealer plates are on 5/3/16 when I pick my plate / have it printed for my car at the dealership. Expecting metal to be honest.

Think Halfords plates are metal to my knowledge, but will have to check!

Dealerplates do appear to last forever, my current car's had it's plates on for 5 years but it looks like waters got in on one of the joints, it's minor and i'd resealed it on the weekend, but, hardly a big issue for £20 quid for a plate set!

Original hole locations, but not sure if extra holes made when the fitted the brackets.
Thanks mate, interesting though...so the front "dimples" are 208mm apart? Then the back is 180mm. Would have thought they were the same. Tempted to unscrew the plastic brackets today to see where they drilled the holes for it. Means ripping off the plates though as they were stuck on to the plastic thing. Want my new plates on for the Guildford meet on Sunday :)

Hmm - front plate, that's another set of holes drilled!

Out of interest, will a plastic plate do the bend in the bumper or would it need a bit of heat to help it?

Dealer didn't use original holes to fit plates, dunno why but looks ok tho, i think he fitted a thin rubber backing to the front plate to save damage to the paintwork at the peak

I have seen some stuck on with pads that dont appear to have been bent by heat, so they just curve along the point in the bumper. But for me personally, I would worry that the plate would flex and peel away from the pads.

Found this thread from Euro section, looks like there may be 4 holes in the bumper. Might be best to use the brackets as a template for putting holes in your number plate. Will be less weight without the bracket so should get off with just 2 holes.

Bending a plastic plate with heat wouldn't work, if i'm not mistaken the plates have a laminate over them, heat + laminate = fail.

Aluminium plates bought from here http://www.number1plates.com/ and attached using 3 bits of 3M heavy duty velcro tape on the front plate and 2 bits on the rear. Very light weight plates and the front one bends nicely around the angle in the bumper.

Ok, I have found my old plates...as you can see the back plate is buggered, front plate seems ok strangely. Seem to be from "Number1showplates" which as far as i can tell does not exist  no idea where they are from but I don't like them. I think they are cheaply made - it seems to be a thin, printed reflective plastic sticker stuck on a black piece of plastic.
