Yeah with the two-piece driveshaft, that video makes me laugh every time. Do all of the new ones have a one-piece?
They never fixed the problem. Still there. Don't know why.

The first time it happened (I was an early adopter when they went to the 3.7 liter engine in 2010, and was following these things) was some guy on a dyno run. He showed pictures of his mangled, blown-up driveshaft and nobody believed him that he was just running stock with a tune. Then it started happening to like a half-dozen other people, and everybody got confused.

Either way he's wrong, the driveshaft didn't explode in that video it was all a hoax, there's some info online somewhere where that myth and video were busted.
It's not a myth. It wasn't just the one video. If you want, you can go back and look through all of the threads about the issue on allfordmustangs.com from December 2010-February 2011 where nobody believed that all these people kept blowing up their driveshafts on dynos. Including photographs.

so you're saying the S550 V6 has the same driveshaft as the solid axel S197? or are you just making a wild guess?
The 2011-2014 V6's had a one piece drive shaft, while the GT's had a two-piece.

The 2015 V6... still has a one piece drive shaft. Despite the known problems from the 2011-2014's.

This was all hashed out years ago on a previous forum... not sure if this site allows links to other Mustang forums, but I'll give it a shot:

What myth?
It isn't a myth.

There's a video that went around a few years ago of a guy in a 2011 V6 (factory governed to 113 mph) who had a tune that removed the governor. When he gets to about 135 mph, the driveshaft explodes.

Everybody's seen that video, but apparently people aren't aware that this was not an isolated incident. The first time it happened to a consumer was somebody running a V6 with just a tune on a dyno in December 2010, as soon as that engine came out. His driveshaft exploded; he posted pictures on a forum. Nobody believed him, thinking that he'd done some kind of crazy mods that overwhelmed the driveshaft. Except it kept happening, again and again, that guys would have their V6 Mustangs with just a tune on the dyno and they would keep exploding driveshafts.

The one-piece driveshaft in the 2011-2014 V6 had a harmonic problem that would cause it to explode when it rotated fast enough, which is why they had the ludicrously low 113 mph governor on them. The 2015 V6, as far as I can tell, still has a one-piece driveshaft, unlike the GT and Ecoboost.

I see one of the ppl in the link you posted said that AM saw the video and placed a 125mph limiter on their V6 tunes, do you know if they still do that?

I know that they did up through 2014; not sure about the 2015's.

Hmm I thought I had read or heard the GT was limited to like 164. Nvm, I guess Maybe that was just top speed unlimited unmoded
The 164 MPH is real close to what a GT with a 6-speed would do at redline in 5th gear with a 3.31 rear end. But from what I'm reading, the GTs are electronically limited to 155 MPH.

6th gear is so high, that it probably won't even pull to 155 MPH in 6th (that would be ~4300 RPM). I think 5th gear would give a higher top speed than 6th.
