Hi everyone!! New to the forum. I do not currently have a Mustang but will be purchasing an S550 within the next 6 months. Looking for your recommendations on buying used or new? I know I want a GT with Performance Package and automatic. I have also found a GT with a bunch of Steeda upgrades and supercharged...is that a good purchase? Obviously not what I need, but would be bad!! Anyway, hopefully don't get roasted for the newbie questions. Looking forward to great info from this site! Thanks!!

There are so many factors that go into purchasing and the questions are a little open ended. Are you set on a 2018+ model or don't mind the 2015-2017? Do you know the differences? Do you plan to keep this car a very long time?
Those kind of affect whether you should get something used or new. Used, you can obviously save a good bit of money and potentially score some mods already installed. The downside is, you don't know as much of the history of the car, likely won't have as much warranty or safety if something breaks and may be missing out on some newer styling or features depending on the year. The other thing to note is new cars are quite cheap right now and there are some serious deals going on.

Obviously a GT with steeda upgrades and a supercharger would be a lot of fun, I would just be weary of how hard the car was driven by a previous owner. If its not going to be a daily driver or you don't mind fixing a few things if something were off maybe you'd be more comfortable going this route and could save a lot of money on those mods. Those are my takes on the kind of things to consider or think about when choosing which direction to go.

I'm naturally very picky with my cars, and want them to be "mine" from the start so I bought my car new 2 weeks ago. Got a killer deal, spec'd the way I wanted it, and now I can mod it to my desire without worrying what someone else has done to it.

Thanks for your input! I want 2018+ because I have read so many great things about the A10 for a start! I am really leaning to new for the reasons you mentioned. I see you are in Fl also, where did you end up getting yours from and how much if you don't mind me asking. Thanks again.

If you want the PP in auto you will need to either buy a 2015 50 Limited edition Mustang or a 2018 up. I have bought most of my Mustangs used and my rule is: No mods, one owner well maintained. To me this is more information than a similarly priced modded Mustang. There are just too many people that beat the heck out of their car, or mod it incorrectly to trust from a strange seller.
The exception to this rule would be a one owner that has meticulous records.

The A10 is amazing, this car is ridiculously fast from the factory. So much so, i'll be focusing on appearance mods mostly first and probably won't go too crazy with performance since i'm pretty content with nearly 500HP on a street car. I got mine at Brandon Ford. They're the highest volume dealer and can typically have a bit more wiggle room, and are eager to make deals to maintain their whole "highest volume dealer in the world" title they got last year. They have a number of cars they're offering around 7.5k off MSRP. The last 2 weeks of March Ford offered an additional 2.5k off if you financed thru Ford credit. So my deal was 40k on a 50k MSRP car before considering tax tag title and my trade. Without my trade we likely would have been around 43k OTD. Process was super easy too, told them which car I wanted, they gave me the internet pricing right off the bat and I told them how much I wanted for my trade and it was a deal. Sadly the additional 2.5k seems to have expired, might be good to wait for the next bump in deals maybe towards end of month.

I'd probably stay away from a heavily modded used car. Yes, it could save you money BUT... The PO likely didn't mod it to see it sit. It was modded to drive and drive hard.
The whole buy it new because I then know the car has merit.
Personally I seldom buy new. For me one owner cars a year or so old (2 tops) is the best bang for the buck. Bought my '18 EB Convertible in July of '19 for $21k. The original window sticker was $39+k. It had factory warranty remaining plus was CPO so that was extended by 12k miles.
I don't blame anyone for buying new, it's really some kind of special to do that. But, letting someone else take a 47% deprecation hit is pretty special too.
One other thought to consider, if new vehicles are routinely being sold at a 20% discount then it's likely that the pricing on used ones is depressed even further.

You're right about the A10. If you can find a great deal on a new car, I'd go that route. I got my 2018 GT Premium with A10, Performance package 1, Magneride, and Safe and smart package for $8k under MSRP in Nov. 2018. Used refreshed S550 cars at the time weren't much better priced because the '18s weren't very old. Plus, the car was optioned exactly how I wanted and I really wanted the Gen 3 Coyote - it's a big step up from Gen 2 IMO. I also didn't need premium plus, nor did I need/want the digital gauge cluster - digital gauge clusters are a bit gimmicky to me. My wife has one in her Volvo XC90. Digital clusters seem like technology simply for technology's sake, they don't bring any additional joy to driving for me, personally. And I really like the look/feel of the 2018 gauge cluster in my car. Anyway, with the 2018 GTs being 2 years old, you could probably find a good deal on a used one now which wouldn't be a bad way to go, assuming you find one optioned how you like.

I have the 2018 GT Premium convertible with 401A package. I typically buy older high-end cars (Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, etc.). So all of the tech features and electronics on my Mustang are a real treat for me. They add a lot of fun to the car.
