New wheels help please

I use automated car wash and there’s a wheel rail. So. That would be better just in case it ever hit.

well, quit hitting stuff. That said find a better class of car wash, no? You want touchless and they have an arm suspended from above and it doesn't come less than about a foot from your car. The floor would be flat too, no 'grab your tire and force you into position' stuff.

ive never hit the rail, but they guide you so inside could possibly touch it. I fear that a newbie attendant doesn't care, and has my wheel hit the outside. hasn't happened but holy hell I dont want it too. ive never hit a curb or anything, but there was literally more rim than rubber, so had to buy.


I am on computer so I can type more, the 275's was literally barely flush with the wheel rim. like same as the spoke.

the 285, gave it the perfect fit. looks like it was made for 285. not puffy or anything. everyone there said the 285 looked perfect on the wheel, none liked the 275, and one guy said the 255 was his style, he likes stretch lmao.

he only charged me $50 more for the 285's and they may be there Friday

they sure are. When you have the tire off measure the thickness of the lip (bead surface to outer lip, with/without the extra spoke protrusion). Those seem awful thick.

I will on friday when new wheels come. the box says 9.5 40off but I am convinced these are actually 10 inch wide.

The particulars should be stamped on the back-face, hub or less likely barrel.

I was wondering this. 275s do not fit on my 9.5s like you described on your wheels.

You'd have to really go out of your way to make a 40-profile or shorter tire look bulged or puffy, like outside of tire industry tire to wheel sizing guidelines.

Within the guidelines, a 285-wide tire will have what's generally considered to be a more 'normal' appearance, mainly because most OE tire fitments don't get 'stretched' out on wheels wider than "measuring width". I guess people expect to see at least a little convex shape to their tires' sidewalls.


I personally prefer tires on my own cars to be mildly stretched. But not for any appearance or 'style' reason.

Wheel widths are as measured between the bead seats. Inside the wheel flanges, which is always going to be at least an inch less than the wheel's actual outside to outside measurement.

Wheel outside measurements can always be made without de-mounting the tire.

well hopefully my car looks good with 285/35/19' squared. I already committed to it, and paid. 1200 bucks, for full set of 285/35/19 with road hazard warranty installed. not terrible I dont think? no clue.

I will keep the old rubber/old wheels if I ever need it or want to do burnouts or track or something whatever. or if I sell the car, I will toss them on car, or if its totaled, I will toss them on the car. im not letting them take my nice wheels.

So I will be 68.7 at 70mph correct? I am fine with that, Lol. I just go with the flow.

I think it'll be closer to 68 actual at an indicated 70. If 255/40-19 was your car's OE size.

Still not enough to be concerned about, IMHO.

What is the difference from front to rear in MM width? I rear people use 23mm upfront and 20mm in rear for PP wheels I think to make them both flush. does this mean theres 3mm difference between front and back?

what I am getting at is.


2 options.

285/35/19 on 19x9.5 40 offset rims

option 1.
285/35/19 squared with 5mm spacers all around (19x9.5 35 offset) but when I test fit the 285 on rear tonight, there was around 3-5mm poke if I had to guess. so makes me want to remove the spacer--- it didnt look bad, but I think id like flush imo. won't know til front wheels go on with them on back. I may take one spacer off on friday and put on and look at both sides to see what I like more.

option 2.

285/35/19 squared with 5mm ONLY on front, and no spacer on rear. Will this make the fronts be further out than rear? I mean, would it be noticeable? I could toss a 1-2mm spacer on rear if I wanted to be 100% flush with rear, if there indeed is a 3mm difference from front to back.

let me know what YOU guys would do. because 285/35/19's are coming. since the 275's looked poopy on my wheels. I think no spacer on the rear would make it like almost 100% flush from what I saw.

I have to have 5mm on the front, the wheels hit my caliper if not. 5mm is required to clear. tried to stick them on without it, and straight wouldn't go.

19x9.5 ET53 - 25 spacer = et28

The only reference point that matters ATM is the whee+tire vis-a-vis respective fender lip. Measuring track fore/aft is a different task.

First confirm what you ACTUALLY have by looking at the markings on the castings. THEN we can have an intelligent conversation. Something is amiss for a 9.5et40-5mm to poke.

Do us a favor, find a long straight edge (yard stick will work) and have someone press it lightly against the highest points of the tire and what kind (if any) gap you have between the edge and your fender lip. You can do the reverse by hanging a plumb-line from the fender lip and measuring the distance to the string.

In any event get some kind of measurement and take some photos that actually show the gap. this means you have to sight front/back. Side view is not useful.

I compared his stats vs mine, but my rear looked like it poked a little. his photos dont look like he pokes at all, and in fact, he should be 5mm further out than me right?

yes Brant's have serious poke at the back. Front is hard to tell from those pics. He's got 1.5" drop springs which brings the fender WAY down and accentuates the rear poke.

I would use the 5mm spacers only on the fronts and see how it shakes out.
