I purchased a pair of JBL GTO638 speakers to replace my stock rear speakers in my GT Premium (9 speaker). Install was fairly straight forward. Watched a speaker install video for a base 2015 mustang from Stage 3 Motorsports on youtube.

Screws that connect the speaker to the included bracket adapter are fairly difficult to install given the slope of the rear windshield and little clearance. I suggest a ratcheting phillips head attachment for your socket wrench to more easily get to the rear screws.

Sound improvement was instantly noticeable and was definitely worth the hour or so install time and $78 speaker/metra adapter investment. Got the speakers from amazon, and the Metra Adapter here. The Metra kit comes with two adapters so you only need to buy one pack to do both rear speakers. I didn't realize it came with two so i purchased 2 sets. It just gives me a reason to do the front door speakers (can't let the adapters go to waste am i right? :headbang:)

Here are some pics of the install. I was pretty shocked at the size of the stock "premium" speakers as to my untrained eye they look like junk.

Are you suppose to install 3 way speakers? The factory ones are component correct?

I haven't noticed any negative side effects, I installed them based on the fact that others in the forum have gone with them and they are well reviewed

I didn't like the holes left over with the brackets that came with the speakers, I wonder if it was more sealed up would change the sound much.

I think it would've only made a difference if it were gonna be air tight had a different bracket been used but given all the holes in the frame to begin with, I'm doubtful it would've made a noticeable difference

Bought the kicker cs65 2 way speakers from best buy for $59. These are great speakers compare to Oem speaker that is made out of news paper. I would say they are almost twice as loud and they are very crisp and clear. I did not use any speaker harness. I just soldered the Oem +- connection to the kicker. I had to shave down the edges of the kicker speaker just a bit so it would fit nicely in the Oem housing. Really happy with the upgrade. The front speakers are component but the are decent quality. I might upgrade it later down the road.

I have a 10" Jl w3v3 500 rms with JBL 500x1 rms amp coming in the mail from sonic. I wanted a a subwoofer that was sq sub and Jl fits the bill just fine. 500rms is plenty. Plus the rep gave me 20% off my order.
