Hi All,

finally managed to get my first mustang GT. 2020 model and have a few questions hoping you guys can help with.

I have noticed the door hinges are really rusty (have seen this is quite common) are these replaceable under warranty?

I have noticed my boot smell a bit damp - any ideas of specific leaks are common?

My clutch is VERY high and occasionally judders a little. Car has covered under 15k. Ford seem to think it’s fine, but wondered what others are like?

Finally as I am going to use this as a daily driver, the front is impossible to judge. I have heard of front sensors being fitted. Does anyone have anyone they’d recommend? Ford tell me they won’t fit them, but will supply them?

Thanks all - loving the car so far!

Welcome to the forum! Glad you're enjoying it...any photos???

I can weigh in re the hinges. I had a water ingress issues (long story) but as part of the water damage, Ford did replace the hinge under warranty.

Have a hunt around on this forum (inc USA section) re the boot leak. I'm sure I've seen a fair few posts about it, can't remember the specifics but you may well find the exact issue you have on here which you can read up on before you head to ford.

I'd say see how you get on without sensors for a while, I came from a Ford Fiesta and whilst daunting at first, I'd say it's an easy car to judge once you get used to it. You can sort of see the end of the bonnet which is not the case for a lot of modern cars.

welcome :like:

Hinges, i just covered them in grease which also stops the damned things squeaking / groaning in use
Re parking sensors, if you ever find out and get something sorted let us know eh lol. I have same concerns as you though as Kristian says it could just be down to practice.
Regarding the damp smell in the boot, not sure but it does make me nervous to lift the carpet in there

Regarding the boot, half close the lid and peer inside to make sure the electrical cable isn't getting trapped between the rubber seals which I guess could cause water ingress. If it is, just reach in and alter its path with your hand. Doing this a few times seems to teach the cable a new route eventually.

My car also has a habit of dripping into the boot from the deck lid when opened which is a PITA but I see no solution to that.

Yeah mine does this, it's a right pain in the arse after you've washed it and you are trying to dry off the shuts etc.

Fortunately I have the rubber boot liner so its easy to mop up, but it would concern me if I didn't, especially if I was using the car in all weathers and frequently using the boot etc.

Edit - Should have added ref the door hinges, once you have either cleaned them up (or replaced them) you can protect them with grease (or waxoyl etc) and then you can get plastic covers that make them a little kinder on the eye :

Thanks all - haven’t had much luck finding sensors. Will check the boot to see if the cable has got caught before. The main damp smell is where the spare should be, so wonder if this happened a while ago?

separate question - but where do most of you get acessrories for the Mustang? Nothing crazy, but Ford online dont seem to have any? Have seen CJPony but they’re US based so not sure on shipping.
Thanks,
Ash

I think most on here would recommend Nemesis UK. @Guy@NemesisUK

I've got all my bits from them pretty much. One or 2 things from ebay and even CJ pony parts, but that comes with its own headaches - import tax, shipping, vat etc.

JW racing as well do a few bits.

GT101 in Essex, Modurstang in Oxfordshire are your go to specialist for installation in the south. As well as Hendy Ford towards Southampton I think, but not used them myself.

I reverse park everywhere, it's easier to get in and out and the rear camera allows you to judge the distance.

There are a lot of after market parts for the Mustang, unfortunately most UK retailers add massive markups on top of the delivery and taxes. You can buy directly from the US but some retailers who have UK sites will force you to buy from them. You can circumvent this and consolidate your US purchases through Stackry, which will save you a lot of money, especially on larger orders. Most deliveries from the US take 5-10 days so it's well worth it. The downside to all this is returning items, you would need to ship it back to the US, so purchase on your credit card for security.

The other issue to look out for is whether what you're buying fits a rhd, most do but it's still worth checking before hand.

I've not heard of any specific leak problems, pull up the carpet in the boot, there are rubber drain plugs, check they're not missing. It could be they washed it and didn't let it dry properly, so you'll just need to air out the interior.

Have a look at the Steeda clutch spring, it makes the clutch lighter and more manageable.

If you haven't found front parking sensors, there is a trick I learned (in these forums, maybe?) that you may be able to adjust to account for differences. It always works for me. I was told to pull forward until the curb/pavement/etc just shows under your side rear-view mirror.

Sit as you always do, just turn your head. It always puts the nose a couple of inches from touching.

I realise that your mirrors are not the same as US models, and of course you are driving on the right side, but it should still work with a couple of tweaks. Maybe recruit someone to "spot" for you while you experiment? Anyway, HTH

We have one lady at work that openly admits to using the hedge around the parking lot as her parking sensor - drive up to it until it moves, then reverse back a little … :surprised:

Sounds obvious now that you say it, but I have never thought about that before. Makes good sense sand I will be sure to experiment with that next time I have a chance. Hopefully it will work with my mirrors, but great tip no matter.
