NEW INFO ON GT500

"Eco" and "V8" doesn't fall within Ford's strategic position in the industry. I've been saying it for a while that I do not believe an "Ecoboost" V8 will be in the next Halo Mustang but then I got thinking that it's all a play on words. Maybe they'll just use a "Twin turbo V8" and not use the EcoBoost badge.

We're all car people; we're not stupid. In any other situation outside of this "GT500" we scream all the time about how "EcoBoost" is just a marketing gimmick and it's just turbocharging tuned to give good low end grunt and fuel economy. So why are we so hooked on this "EcoBoost" name when we talk about the next Halo Mustang? We are all aware that there is nothing "eco" about V8's and Ford is too.

Please note that we aren't talking marketing.

We are referring quite plainly to a twin turbocharged V8 engine.

The Ecoboost moniker could very well apply here since it inherently will make more efficient power even though it will make gobs of it.

Look at the ecoboost v6 in the gt. That ain't no econobox engine, aiight?

So it will be an ecoboost v8 in terms of engineering and how power is derived. But it will likely be referred to as something else.

Don't get caught up in the ecoboost name.

What is relevant is s twin turbo v8 engine.

I would expect a TT V8 to be able to make more power than the Voodoo and also get better fuel economy. Seems like it could easily earn the "Eco" badge to me.

There's no "unless Ford steps in." It's illegal for Ford to dictate price to retailers. The most Ford can do is try to indirectly punish retailers that have big markups by giving them less allocation in the future -- that's exactly what Dodge did for the Hellcats. It didn't completely end dealer markups but it helped.

I agree with you, but Ford seems super dedicated to the idea of marrying the EcoBoost name to boosted high performance motors. Just look at the race car livery:

that being said the GT racecar was applauded for being fuel efficient during the race, which is just as important as power in these competitions to cut down on pit times

If my memory is correct, prior to the EcoBoost name, the engine was called TwinForce.
I recall that TwinForce didn't relate to warm, fuzzy feelings regarding fuel economy.

Yes. That was my point. Ford even mentions the regular GT engine as an ecoboost.

They could very well do that for the v8 turbo.

Yeah, they could, I really see them using ecobeast for the 500. Either way as fine with me as long as it's a TT v8

Yes, and the Ford marketing emails about the GT's recent win say that the car won because it burned less fuel while racing.

It burned less fuel because it was in the pit fixing problems @ Daytona. Less laps less fuel. glad they got their first win. Now it's on to Le Mans.

There are ways around ADM. They could do it the same as they are doing the GT. By application. You pick the dealer. I already picked mine and told them if they wanted to be my dealer on the car there will be no adm but ill pay a PDI fee. They said no problem. Now there is an extremely minute chance of getting one. Use the same theory on 10k cars and most everyone that wants one will get one at msrp max.

I was talking about the Ford GT win at Laguna Seca. Not sure what Daytona has to do with anything.
