I was talking about the Ford GT win at Laguna Seca. Not sure what Daytona has to do with anything.
It has nothing to do with Daytona. Daytona was a different race, and yes the car had some bugs that was worked out like any new platform that is put to service. Its obvious by its performance at Laguna, that it worked out.

The ecoboost nameplate is something Ford wants out there. I think people get caught up on the word ECO and forget BOOST is attached to it. The new raptor did quite well in its test race with this engine. I think the platform will do well, and rather its a twin 6 or a twin 8, the GT500 would benefit from this platform.

Please note that we aren't talking marketing.

We are referring quite plainly to a twin turbocharged V8 engine.

The Ecoboost moniker could very well apply here since it inherently will make more efficient power even though it will make gobs of it.

Look at the ecoboost v6 in the gt. That ain't no econobox engine, aiight?

No different with the 8.

But for my ears, I'd prefer something else to be marketed. Even on the GT, "Eco" sounds lame.

So it will be an ecoboost v8 in terms of engineering and how power is derived. But it will likely be referred to as something else.

Don't get caught up in the ecoboost name.

It is irrelevant in this discussion.

What is relevant is s twin turbo v8 engine.

And such a creation would kick serious bum.
We are not Ford.

We do not know what Ford is doing.

We cannot confirm.

You do not know any more than me.

Why are you talking line by line like this?

Aiight? Bruh.

You guys are in total denial thinking the next GT500 or whatever will be anything but the same 3.5L TT that is in the new Raptor and Ford GT.

You're right. I am in denial. It would be interesting to see how the GT500 does wrt sales if Ford puts the 3.5L V6 TT engine in it.

Count me as another nonbeliever.
The GT 500 has always been the top-dog V8 model.
It would be a travesty if the new model is powered by anything less than 8 cylinders.
Ford is smart enough to not let that happen.
I can imagine a s/c or EB 5.2 Coyote with manual/10 speed automatic/3.73 rear gear and a Drag Pack type option.

Suggesting it's a V8 is not even denial, no one is refuting a case where there's clear evidence to the contrary. I don't think it's all that evident that the GT500 will get a TT V6, because a new Ford supercar did. Heck, the GT500 went on to a larger displacement, higher HP V8 while the GT stayed the same. I think it's a pretty spurious correlation.

The V8 is _so_ entrenched in the Mustang DNA, and how it's marketed - the vehicles in this market segment are V8s, and the higher performance models are *still* V8s with FI. Not to mention (again), wouldn't that be a weird product line up?

Ford GT made from 2004-2006 with supercharged 5.4L engine.

GT500 released in 2007 with supercharged 5.4L engine based off the GT. (eventually used damn near the same engine as the GT, then moved onto higher displacement)

Ford GT revealed in 2016 with TT 3.5L V6.

I'm betting like last time, the GT500 follows straight in the footsteps of the GT.

I covered that above (minus the dates) :)

Maybe Ford used the GT V8 as a starting point because it defrayed some costs (clearly the cost targets are different this gen of the GT) and (the part you left out of your quote), it ALSO aligned with their marketing/demographic targets that the high[est] performing Mustang use a V8.

The GT goes out of production, and we're still seeing the V8 as the performance option in both the GT and just developed GT350.

The +new+ GT is a $400K car vs. the original that was ~$150K, I believe part of the cost is it's a totally bespoke platform, from chassis to engine. It's a super exotic motor, in an ultra light chassis, with the cooling factored into the whole package. The GT microsite is still saying "over 600 HP", and that's in a $400K car.

I'm assuming the GT500 will be in the high $60Ks upwards to 75K, and to be a significant player in that segment, needs to _at_least_ equal the previous model (662HP), and probably need to break the 7xx barrier and I don't see that price, with the engine packaging and V6 TT of the new GT, let alone it kind of conflicting with idea of the Mustang being a V8 powered modern muscle car like the Camaro, Charger, Corvette, etc.

Just my $0.02. :)

To clarify: I don't have some psychological hangup about the GT500 using a V6 - I've owned I4s, I6s (TT and single T), I6s, V8 aplenty. I just don't think that's the direction Ford will take (per my previous analysis). I don't work in the car industry, just a big enthusiast, but I do get marketing, sales, design, production, cost management, EOS, etc.

I might. I don't track my cars, I just want super fun street machines. And we don't drive anywhere near 10/10ths on the street, especially not with these very high power cars.

So for me, part of the fun involves G forces but a big part is also just the subjective experience. In my Hellcat, hearing the supercharger whine and the exhaust do a fair NASCAR impression when I floor it is a huge part of the character of the car.

The GT is incredible but the sound is.... meh, at least in the videos I've seen so far. If a GT500 had the same engine and the same sound I'd have to think pretty hard before getting it, regardless of how fast the car turns out to be.

I know V6's can sound mean -- just listen to the supercharged V6 in a Jaguar F type. But that's the exception.

I feel a bit like a caveman admitting that while all the talk here is about turbo V8 vs turbo V6, I'm still hoping against hope they do a supercharged V8. Big power, awesome sound, instant throttle response.

My money goes to a supercharged V8. Too much history with V8's. I think we won't see turbo'd Mustang flagships until after 2020.

Oh yeah, my +preference+ would be a V8, no doubt, all of your reasons are the same as mine

What I was saying is I didn't reverse engineer reasons for supporting the V8 - because I prefer it - I really think there is legitimate rationale for Ford using a V8 in the next gen GT500.

Though I do think that one the reasons is the _market_ has a strong bias and Ford is keenly aware of it.

Id like SC as well. Less upkeep over the long haul. Im going to take TN's hint as to what is coming next. TT v8. Should be easy enough to make insane power.
