It isn't me that needs one, it for my 2nd oldest son who broke his (v6) while washing the car after it had been sitting out in the hot sun. Noob error...
I've washed cars in the hot sun for years and never ruined a windshield.

from: http://carlite.com/acoustic-windshield/
"The SoundScreen® acoustic windshield is an integral part of Ford's strategy for quiet vehicle interiors. SoundScreen® acoustic windshields are made of a layer of sound-absorbent vinyl sandwiched between two sheets of glass."
Thanks for the link. As far as I know all cars have windshield laminated glass with some form of vinyl between the glass, wasn't aware there was a special type so had to go wiki it. Near as I can tell my mustang is louder on the inside than my diesel truck or Jeep, but neither of those have aftermarket exhaust and a pretty V8. Wondering if Chrysler/Dodge have been using the EVA version from the Wiki info. Don't really care really though. Thanks for the info, learned something.

Rand, I got mine replace at Safelite Autoglass for $400 OTD for the Ford Factory Replacement "Sound Screen" for my GT.
Fascinating. Both of mine (12/14 and 8/15) were replaced by Safelite, same material as yours. One in CA and one here in Idaho. Both were $496.

The CA one was "insured" by Geico. I paid the whole bill. The second one was four weeks after we'd switched to State Farm and taken $0 deductible comprehensive, which I have never had before. It was cheap and the agent pointed out it was great for things like broken windshields. Sure was. They paid the whole tab.

Funny this tread came up, just had my windshield replaced an hour ago. called a dealer in the Chicago land area, quoted $781 and some change. Called safe lite and was quoted $538.63 installed. they did a good job and only took an hour.

It probably had a small crack or flaw in it to begin with, then when the cold water hit and

Yep. I broke a windshield that way (not a Mustang.) I told the glass guy who came to replace it and he pulled a ballpoint pen out of his pocket and ran it along the crack. Sure enough it caught at one point and upon close inspection there was a tiny little rock chip there.

I'm getting the windshield in my GT350 replaced on Thursday. Quote is for $526 I believe, using OEM glass. I have a $500 deductible, so I won't be bothering to get insurance involved.

GT has a Sound screen glass while his v6 does not. I'm assuming different construction but overall dimensionally the same.
Incorrect, V6 also has the SoundScreen windshield at least for 2016.

My replacement was $874.82 USD for OEM.

Today..........

Here is NC we have LOTS of new construction going on and we lots of dump trucks that say," Not responsible for broken windshields 5,000 miles behind us". Of course, these same trucks have no mud flaps. Just like the Drivers have no teeth......
I was just quoted from Safelite, for a GT, $526.00 + tax/disposal for a replacement..

I'd go after them anyway if one of their trucks broke my windshield. Just because it's on a sign doesn't absolve them of responsibility. It's like parking garages that have a sign that says "not responsible for damage to your vehicle". Steve Lehto is a lawyer who writes articles on Jalopnik, and there is one where he says that they are 100% liable.

The 2nd day I had my car (52 total miles lol), a dump truck cut me off. Of course a small rock came out and hit my passenger side window. A crack started 2 inches, and by the 2nd day it grew to all the way across to the driver's side.

Luckily here in Florida it's free to be replaced from insurance. I saw what they charged and it was 622 for the gt premium package windshield. Safelite was the ones who did it.
