So I got hit by a rock this weekend and the windshield has a large crack. Not going through insurance, and I have a high deductible anyway. I've got 2 quotes so far for OEM- both over $600. Anybody have experience with OEM vs after market? The one guy told me after market doesn't fit as good in the moulding- don't know if that's quite true.

I have to say that all things considered my car is pretty quiet tooling down the road, don't know how much the glass factors in but I'm happy. Also, having a zero deductible comp helps out with glass. It breaks, I put in the claim, call Safelite they replace it with OEM glass at no cost to me. Worth every penny.
Until it comes time to renew your policy and they bend you over. :paddle: I've gotten it good from my company I was with. $7000 Hail damage to the wife's car, couple windshields, my car got totaled due to an uninsured driver, sons friend dumped the clutch on my '15 when it was 4 days old and drove it into the house. All within a 2 year period. Was with them 12-14 years with just a few claims before that.
I almost could not find coverage last December when Travelers dropped me due to a string of bad luck. I'm currently paying roughly $8000 a year for 6 cars and 4 drivers, 2 under 25.

Safelite shows 460-900$ depending on options. Also depending on aftermarket vs oem parts.

Funny this comes up, I have to at least fill a nice little crack/chip in my windshield in my GT I got from a damn semi going through some pass on the US-6 through Nevada last week during my visit to CA from UT. I'm probably just going to spend $20 at a Techna Glass out here to fill the thing for now because our house out here finally sold the week I was gone of course and I'm more concerned right now with packing up all my shit into storage and getting the hell out of here (gotta love those cash quick sales, I got a week) and finding either an apartment to rent or getting my own house. But once I get nice and situated, I really just want a new windshield that isn't going to be showing it got hit by a damn rock.

Today..........

Here is NC we have LOTS of new construction going on and we lots of dump trucks that say," Not responsible for broken windshields 5,000 miles behind us". Of course, these same trucks have no mud flaps. Just like the Drivers have no teeth......
I was just quoted from Safelite, for a GT, $526.00 + tax/disposal for a replacement..
It you can show the truck was losingpart of its load, and the rock wasn't road debris, the trucking company is responsible.

My 2016 EB has same "Sound Screen" front windshield (w/ "Ford" script at top where rear view mirror is located).
FYI - my V6 has the Ford logo at the top as well. I was under the impression that all 15/16 Mustangs did.

My 05 Mustang had the pony logo and, when I had to replace the windshield, I asked the glass company [local guys] to get the OEM windshield just because I liked the pony symbol. Under my insurance, was $100 for windshield.

Good question. I have 0 deductible for collision but a new OEM windshield SafeLite charged my insurance 445.00. It has the Ford logo in the corner so I know it's OEM. Says it on the receipt as well.

I was in the autobody biz several years ago and Glass had the biggest mark-up of anything. It was -50% minus 10%.I passed along some of this to customers so try negotiating.
When I was a kid I needed a windshield and went to a glass shop. They gave me a quote and I turned to leave saying I can't afford that. The guy says but insurance pays it and I tell him I don't have any for that and he says, Oh, in that case its half of what I told you.

So auto glass has markups like jewelry.

I suspect the reason is that insurance pays for almost every piece of auto glass. Insurance premiums and hence profits are linked to what they pay out so they don't mind one bit if glass places charge double and give you $50 or a bunch of Omaha Steaks, etc. Govt regulators allow them to set their premiums based on losses paid out. So the more they pay for windshields, the more they rake in. It's a profit deal.

FWIW Safelite will give a 'corporate' discount if you can convince them it's a company car.

I found this out last month when I called to schedule a dual appointment for my Dad's '16 F250 (corporate owned) and my wife's G37 convertible (personally owned). Since I had two vehicles to schedule, the woman asked if they were company cars and I said they sure are  , so she said I'll give you a corporate discount and wave one of the fees.

That F250 windshield with sound shield and Ford logo wasn't much over $400 as I wrote a check for $750 for both vehicles and that included the on location fee.

It's worth a shot to say this is my company car, do you offer a corporate discount? ;)

Don't just call Safelite. Look for and call a local company. When I had to have my windshield replaced, a local company charged $300 for OEM glass whereas Safelite was almost double that.

No way! Only Safelight emails you a picture of the rep that's dispatched. With other glass companies you're at risk of a 3rd party driving a truck with the company name you called showing up and robbing you instead of replacing your glass!

That seems pretty far-fetched.

Plus, given that I prefer to support smaller local companies, it seems dubious that someone else would be driving around impersonating them. Even my insurance agent said to me that Safelite is very overpriced.

I had a Safelite guy tell me once that they have fixed pricing of $225 with most insurance companies on ALL windshields. Some they make money on, some the insurance wins on.
That being said, keep in mind that what happens in your state could be completely different in my state.

And FYI, since my post the other day, I caught a big chunk of asphalt on the way home due to our shitty road maintenance here in Columbia. I'm not running it through insurance. Paying the Safe light quote of $465 and sending the receipt to the SCDOT to cover the repairs since this is due to lack of maintenance on their part. When a small Nissan drives through a crumbling pot hole on the interstate entrance ramp and throws a chunk of the road at me, its the DOT's fault.

After taxes it was $560ish on my buddy's 16 GT last week at Safelight, and 4 damn hours to wait... so I went to a bar after 1 hr.
