This car will be epic I still can’t believe it’s nearly 122 hp per liter. GM has an advantage over for in that they kept the (by todays standard) large bore spacing. Ford prove you could long stroke a FPC and make it live. GM went the traditional route of a big bore and a short 3” stroke. It’s still going to shake like a mother but it shouldn’t be as bad as the voodoo. I love the voodoo sound but I really like this one too. I’m going to have to go back and look but I think GM was testing this combo back in 11 or 12 just without the DOHC. If memory serves me they were using a pushrod 5.5l FPC in there C6/C7 racecar.

I see Chevrolet has a vette that stock for stock will destroy a MACH 1 / GT350 / GT350R & $100K GT500. Like to see what it does against the Ford GT.

I don’t know if it will be in the league of the GT maybe the zr1. For the same money it should smash a 500. Can’t wait to see fords answer…I’d say this only help ensure the s650 gets a gt500. I don’t see ford letting this slide.

Regardless of generation, a GT350, GT500, <any other name> based on a Mustang won't have a performance chance against a platform like the C8 if GM takes up the challenge.

The benchmark for this car was the 458 Challenge….if they got close to a nearly 300k 12 year old car than this should be the performance steal of the last 100 years. The 458 Challenge was a damn missile on the track

Based on the numbers, it should just as quick as, if not quicker, than the Ford GT. It will probably perform better on the track as well. I can't wait to see what the ZR-1 or Zora will be like. Good time to be a car guy.

Maybe the base C8, they were testing the ZO6 against the likes of the current GT3.

In the video they were baselining the z06 against the 488 at first and then switched to the 458 Challenge. Might have used a gt3 as well but I know for sure the 458 is what they were shooting for.

The 488 was not out yet when development started on C8, including Z06. GM bought two 458s. One for driving and one for teardown. The engine and drivetrain went straight to the Powertrain development team in Pontiac. The rest of the car was on benches and in crates at the Warren Tech Center. The 488 was probably acquired either a little before I retired or a little after. I never saw it but I knew it was around, but I’m a bit fuzzy on exactly when I heard it was around. There was also a GT3 and at least one McLaren assigned to the Corvette Team.

So they sold the 458 and bought a 488 when the prototypes were first running around. At some point they decided they didn’t want to benchmark the car against the 488 and bought another 458 and used it to test the prototypes against. That’s what TJ said yesterday during the reveal of the car.
