In order for a nameplate to gain notoriety, it usually needs to be a great car first, then the name rings a bell. That said, and now that we realize that, what should Ford do here?

Do they reach back into the bag and use "SVO"? SVO stood for Special Vehicle Operations and was changed to SVE then SVT. I personally want to streamline the nameplates and I don't think "SVO" is a good choice.

Do they follow the One-Ford philosophy and use the "ST"? ST is an actual class name in USCC (Grand Am) where Focus/Fiesta sized cars race. It means "Street Tuner" and is heavily Turbo based. I personally think "ST" has a nice ring to it.

The Eco4 could be called the ST4 and a future Eco3.5 could carry the ST6 badge. Not just "ST" like the other Fords but ST4 and ST6.

RS (usually meaning Rally Sport) was another suggestion BUT, it is more of a European name for Ford. RS is also the Euro version of SVT. Maybe call them ST4/ST6 in the US and an RS4 and RS6 is EU.

Should Ford keep the Eco4 and V6/Eco6 simple? Mustang 4G and 6G? Or how about ST4 for the EB2.3, 6G for the N/A 3.7 and ST6 for the Eco3.5 if there ever is one? Even room for a mighty Mustang 4G someday when we have a 3000lbs base car.

What about elevating ALL Ecoboost Mustang's to a GT status like the Fox did?

I'm partial to ST, and I think your idea for ST4 is a good one. The only problem I see with it is people complaining it's to close to the SRT-4, SRT-8 naming Dodge has used. I love the SVO moniker, but I'd like them to save that for a special edition/track edition in the future. Something similar for what Ford did with the most recent Boss 302s but for the 2.3T

I agree that few may feel that ST4 is close to SRT-4. The EB2.3 will need to make the name for itself. I love that it makes the Ecoboost Mustang's feel individualized and independent.

In honor of Mustang6G, I think the Base 3.7 should be named Mustang 6G (4G if it were an NA 4 LOL). Keep the Ecoboost Mustang's ST4/ST6.

We can only hope these cars become so popular that an additional nameplate will be needed above the ST4.

The ST4 Daytona ;) and bid farewell to the SVO :(

Agreed, I hope the 2.3T takes off right from the start. Eventually V8s will be reserved for only the special editions, so more work they start put into the four cylinders now will benefit everyone in the future. I am wondering if they're going to just call the 2.3T a GT since some of the pictures floating around with cars in GT trim have a 6500rpm redline

The ST works nicely with the GT scheme as well.

Be interesting to see where Ford goes with this. Never been a fan if SVT, it sounds and looks like crap regardless of what it stands for. Now, SHO was very cool. Shane they ditched that.

I say the simplest answer is ST. It flows nicely, base, ST and GT.

The 1980's turbo-4 didn't have any special name did it?

Ecoboost is a brand that Ford wants to push. It's name is below the "SHO" badge on the Taurus and on every turbo car they make. I'm not sure if there will be a special designation but you will see the Ecoboost nameplate on the car.

It was called the GT Turbo in 1984. There was the SVO in '83-'84...

In 1979 Ford offered the first factory Turbo Mustang called the Turbo Cobra.

Like it or not ( I don't ), I think for branding purposes they will put the EcoBoost badge on it somewhere.

The fact that it hasn't been badged or named yet makes me wonder what Ford has up it's collective sleeve. I think it's got to be something special or they would of dropped it on us at the reveal.

What comes out of SVT can be would be separate to the base models, which are the 3 we know of (2.3, the V6 and V8).

"ST" is Ford's global performance vehicle arm (although in the US it's still called SVT).

For that reason I don't think it would be called ST or RS. These badges may be used if or when SVT offer a hairier 2.3 model.
