Gonna ask you another question because I'm not really familiar with some of this, but wouldnt you want to be revving higher (say 3K) to skip a gear? Otherwise you'll just get close to stalling, no?
Torque, my friend, torque. Also, the gears are spaced pretty close together so you don't drop that far. 6th gear is the one exception to that. IIRC, I am shifting around 2.5-3.5K rpm when skip shifting most of the time.

I'm at 20.4 MPG Avg since I picked it up and now at 1750 miles and MPG really went up when I took it on a nice 400 mile day drive to Fort Worth and back. I think I could sqeak out 27 on the highway if I really tried. But Ill drive it when I drive it not baby it.

The ram 1500 gets babied, I can get 27 MPG highway in it and 24.2 at a steady 75MPH. 5.7 hemi 6auto with 3:55 rear.

And yes it's nice having 2 modular motors that are so much a like and from different manufactures.

The judgement will hit his taillights and right back at you.
Says guy with 4.6 who will see my taillights ;)

On a long highway trip I can understand that, but in 50/50 driving if you get over 20 you must be driving it like a minivan

I drove around for a day to try and see how good I could do in the MPG department. all city driving, I shifted at 2500rpm maximum and cruised no higher than 2500rpm's... best I could do was 18mpg... if I raised my shift point to 3000rpm's I dropped to roughly 16.5mpg.

under fairly "normal" driving conditions I get about 14.5mpg.

I've had one tank that topped 20 mpg -- barely -- but I haven't really done much highway driving at all; last week I drove to Philly and I think that's the first time the car topped 65 mph. Been averaging like 15.5 or so, sometimes less, sometimes more. Low tank I think was 10.8, high was 20.1.

I applaud you GT highway 20-plussers on your self control. I don't think I've managed a highway trip over 20mpg combined; my right foot seems to just do its own thing. :D

I can easily see those figures if you're on cruise control, but with the way I drive, I get a realistic 16-19 because I'm blaring the cannons out back every minute or so. 14-17 around town if I'm being less aggressive.

How many stops? If I'm trying to "hypermile" my car, like minimizing braking and touching the throttle like an eggshell, I can get higher MPGs. As soon as I hit a light and accelerate, that thing drops big time. It's all about coasting in this thing.

I never drive like this though. Which is probably why my front tires look almost new and my rears are literally bald... 6k on the odo.

Have 541 miles on the car and my commute one way is 19 miles mixed highway/city. Driving conservative to see how good I can get. Averaging 21.3. Auto

My GTI with a manual averages 27 mpg

Honestly, if there were good driving roads that were both nearby and not clogged with cars, I doubt my mileage would be that good. I'm not a drag racing kind of guy, so I hardly ever give it more than 30-40% throttle from a stop (you just run into other cars, so the fun is over fast). That said, it is damn exciting when I get a chance to roll onto WOT in 1st, 2nd, 3rd....

I gave my dad a ride in the car for the first time on Saturday and he remarked how hard it threw his head back :D

I have now put a little over 3000 miles and my average is 27 on long trips its 30 to 32 at best . This car gets a little better on the gas than my 2014 GT did but I didn't buy it to save money on gas

On the highway, I use the virtual vacuum gauge (since I don't have the real one with the PP). Always try to keep the needle down as far as possible; never let it get above 10 psi during acceleration, try to keep it around 20 psi. That's the game -- constantly checking the gauges to make sure I'm getting the best possible instantaneous fuel mileage, switch back and forth between the MPG gauge and the vacuum gauge every 20 seconds or so.

get it into 6th gear and quit leaving it in 5th all the time or winding out gears to much just because it makes your exhaust louder lol and 19-20 in town is easy and 24 on interstate.
