Well, I put an X-Pipe and Kooks axle backs ( SKU: 11516210) on my car quite a while back. Liked it then, but it is just too loud, and the drone is too much for me now. I like the sound of an x-pipe and want black tips. I know that many run stock mufflers with an X, but I prefer not to modify the stock mufflers and like a bit of rumble and rasp. Just not the loudness that I have now. I mean, I wear hearing aids and if its too much for me then I understand why everyone I know has been telling me that it is too loud.

What experience and suggestions do you all have for axle backs that are mellower and have no drone?

Corsa touring axle backs (they’re used in the Corsa Sport catback) would sound great with the X pipe. And no drone. The touring axle backs are the mellower of the two and in my opinion sound better than the Extreme catback (I believe the Extreme uses sport axle backs + X pipe).

You could try the magnaflow resonated x, you get both the crossover sound but also keeping it quieter and less raspy with the resonator.

I love Borla, I have the S Type. That is their "Middle" system, you can go down to the touring or up to the ATAK if you want louder or quieter. I have virtually no drone at all. I drove 4 hours today and it was a great trip. The Black Chrome tips look fantastic too... Mine is a full cat back with X Pipe but they do have Axle back only systems.

Don't think that the Magnaflow resonated X is still being sold. The Accelatec resonated X from CJ Pony is similar.

Inside the cabin, I definitely hear the resonator. Around 2 to 3k, I hear this howling type sound, but to me, nothing unpleasant. Cold startup loudness is same as stock resonator. The rest of mine is all stock active.

Keep what you have and get a set of resonators installed right behind the X. Not sure what diameter your X pipe is so I included both 2.5" & 3.0"

I have Corsa sport and just swapped out double x for double h. Big sound difference.

Thanks for the replies so far. So, I have, change the resonator (which I prefer not to), Corsa Touring (which is possible), Ford Racing Sport (about as loud as what I have), and resonators behind the x-pipe. Keeping in mind that my car is a '17 and I do not want to change to quad tail pipes are there any other suggestions? Right now, the Corsa Touring and the addition of the Stainless Brothers resonators are in the lead.

If it were my car, I’d go the Corsa route. Corsa definitely has a unique tone compared to the other aftermarket exhausts out there (and I’m one that likes to stand out a bit from the crowd).
